Well, my alternator belt cracked one day. i decide to continue till home! finally it broke down 10 kms before home (just made 150kms on the battery!!)...we replace the battery to continue rather to tow.

What we can tow a 4 wheels drive car? what are the issue if it done?

what about the MOT so? in France, the MOT is particular, the car is put on the rollers (on the front wheels, and then on the rear wheels), to test the brakes aspecially, but the rollers rolls to move the wheels....is there any danger for something (diff, gearbox, viscous coupling??)

The mot station if the same as in uk if they don't have 4 wheel brake rollers the mot inspector has to take the car for a drive and not sure but i think its 30 mph then brake to a stop.some use a meter and others use their discretion

Most ive seen use a gauge like a level that goes in the car then drive it across the car park and brake it measures the force of the cars stop ....

Put it this way fred i wouldnt let them test my car in that manor .... its awd wich is meant to drive front and rear 50/50 so by trying to stop either axles is going to result in failure.... your basicly winding the diff

so 3 means are used....depends on wich center and if the controler is aware of the 4WD

1st you put the front wheels on the rollers (one wheel turn in one direction, the other an other direction) and the back wheels stay on the floor

2de 2 free rollers are put at the back wheels

3rd the back wheels are lifted up and leaved to move freely.

when i had my GTIR two years ago, they used the 1st mean....so that's the aim of my question...is it dangerous for our cars??

either all 4 wheels must be off the floor or turning at same speed on rolling road
2 off the floor and the other 2 running in rollers is a killer on the viscous diff

that's why you should never ever tow a 4wd vehicle in a spec lift etc
