Ok so some of you may remember me posting up my R was to slow, with the turbo to manifold gasket not helping, while looking over the car today with the front bumper off I found a split in one of the alloy intercooler pipes going from the front mount to the turbo about an inch long so think this will be causing the loss of power

Here's the pic

Oh is it a common problem on these then? I guess that's what's caused it then

funnily enough we had a car in this week which was down on power and having a forged engine fitted
was only when the old lump was removed that we found this
Found the problem Er9t
the plenum was cracked right the way through but you could not see it on the car as that part lays back, and it woulnt have shown up on a pressure test due to air escaping through bypass valves on throttle bodies

was a good spot by my man lee

What front mount you using Paul?
I had a problem with a Mazda a few years ago had a bit of work done on it after it was back up and running again.was down on power could never work out what it was till I stripped the car for parts.and found a hairline crap on the inlet not enough to be noticeable when driving normally but enough to cause problem when on full boost

Was told it was greddy when I bought the car as I couldn't see, but can't see it on greddy on there so don't think it is,

May look into getting a different intercooler, will see how it is once current problems are sorted

Ok so took the intercooler pipe off to weld and it ended up having 2 splits in the same pipe, where they have been mandrel bent inside the bender scored the pipe creating a weak point,

Welded both them up, took all the other pipes off and inspected them, put it all back together,

Wow it's like a different car idles a lot better due to not losing vac now

And it actually feels like a 300 odd bhp car also spits some amazing flame out lol

certainly sounds like one of those eBay kits as the quality is as you would expect shite. Worth keeping an eye out for a better kit & bobby seems to have a few better quality used kits quite often.

it wouldn't have made a scrap of difference to vacuum readings

but it would stop ecu overfuelling which is what would have been happening as the air volume being read by afm would have been inconsistent to the air mass at the plenum so ecu would have been putting a lot more fuel in than needed.

that's why if you blow a boost pipe the car will chug to a stuttering halt as the plugs will be soaked in fuel.
that's where running a blowby maf setup is a good thing
