1) remove both alternator and power steering belts
2) remove crankshaft pulley centre bolt, this can sometimes be very tight so ideally with an airgun. if you do not have an airgun then use a socket with breaker bar or swan neck ring spanner.
if using a ring spanner place firmly on pulley bolt and hit the other end with a lump hammer and this generally shocks it loose.
the other way to do it is by placing a socket on a breaker bar and onto bolthead, remove the ht coil lead and briefly crank the engine over until the bar hits on a solid piece of metal such as lower arm, this will also shock the bolt loose.
3) once bolt is removed spray some penetrating oil around end of crank where keyway sits and leave to soak for 5 minutes. then get 2 lever bars or hefty screwdrivers and gently prise either side of the pulley until it starts to come free (some are very tight as fitted on a taper but persevere and it will come off. DO NOT use the 8mm threads to thread bolt through to remove pulley or you will put a hole in the pump casing which will then lead to a major job.
4) once pulley is removed you can carefully prise out the oil seal on pump cover but be carefull not to bend the thin shim washer that sits beneath it, use either a seal priser or you can use a screwdriver.
5) once seal is removed you can then place the new seal into casing (I generally use some grease over the seal to aid it going in. IMPORTANT make sure the seal is knocked in squarely so it fits flush with the pump casing
6) you can then start to replace everything but before you fit the pulley you need to check the inner edge of pulley that fits around the seal for fine cracks or wear. we generally clean them up with some 400 wet n dry paper then put a wipe of grease over it as you do not want any rough edges destroying your new seal.
7) replace all other removed parts and finally torque the pulley bolt up to specified torque or if you do not have a torque wrench then do it up as tight as possible by hand.
the whole job should take you no longer than an hour to do, but if the pulley is megatight to get off then it can take longer so allow yourself 2 hours if you have never done the job before
now get on with it
