Hi,
My name’s Lucas, I live in Poland and I’ve been thinking about buying GTI-R for some time. My English is a little bit rusty so I apologize for any mistakes!
There’s one very interesting project to sell in my Country that I’m seriously interested in. As I’m not really a GTR-I expert (so far) I’d appreciate your opinion

1. Is it worth it? The owner wants 7600 GBP, I want to buy for max 6700 GBP. I saw a lot of interesting projects in UK forums for less than 5500 GBP so I’m wondering …
2. Can anyting else can be bought for that money?

Pros
1. The car is built almost from scratch. One unique feature is VET added to the engine – and it’s seems to work!
2. Is very quick (approx. 4 s to 100km/h), currently approx. 430 HP and 470 Nm … and that look 

Cons
1. Reliability – my main concern is gearbox / clutch. Just recently 3rd/4th gear broke. It’s fixed now but I’m worried as this is probably the weakest link in this project right now.. As written on a PAR site “Another common issue with worn transmissions is the collapse or loss energiser springs/clips from the 3rd/4th gear hub/slider which can cause selection issues for 3rd and 4th gears.”

Description in EN can be found here
http://www.adrenalinemotorsport.pl/gielda/o,nissan-gti-r-sr20vet

Current sales ad is here http://www.racingforum.pl/NISSAN-PULSAR-SUNNY-RNN14-GTI-R-4x4-SR20VET-t121166.html
Since than the car got new set up (430HP/470Nm) and wideners around wheels.

I would appreciate any advice and opinions! This is a huge investment for me and very serious decision. I don’t want to buy a car that needs +50% investments (I’ve already have 2 projects like that – CRX and Saab 900NG)

Thanks!
Lukasz

Hi and thanks for welcoming me

Unfortunately the car has stock gearset that already broke and was fixed just recently (problem with 3rd/4th gear).

yeah that's a lot of power and torque to run on a stock box so being realistic you would need an uprated gearset such as quaife, par to handle the extra loading on the transmission

the car looks to be a good well built car and engine sounds nice too but you would need to budget around 3k just incase that gearset ever pops again

This is exactly what I suspected! I have no illusions that the current gearbox will last for long. I think I'll use this argument in my negotaitions with the owner.

BTW - what do you think is the fair price for this car regarding all, relatively cheap and hi spec GTI-Rs available in UK? The cost of changing the steering wheel from left to right is approx 500 GBP in Poland (I need to add this cost to my calculation if I want to buy the car in UK)

looking at some of the spec on the car I would say 6k is about what its worth but I cant understand the full spec as don't understand whatever language it is
but the car appears to be good and engine sounds sweet from the video
hope that helps, sorry but not much more I can add

perhaps he thought it would be ok and after breaking it realised it wouldn't and isn't prepared to lash out the extra money needed

Funnily enough that the situation for a lot of builds.
kind of easy slap in some forged pistons, a bigger turbo & you over 400hp.
Gearbox is not such a straight forward option for most plus finding someone trust build it is another issue unless up to the task yourself so always tends to get left & hope you lucky.
£3K don't buy you much in terms of gearboxes, if you can't build it a £2.8K PAR gearkit soon turns closer to £4k by time you include some additional parts for building, perhaps cryo treating case & build labour.

This car looks great, engine looks like a solid build aswell. That VET would be screaming for a gearset though. I'd be interested in seeing a dyno sheet

Not that it matters to much but it is a sr20ve P11 head on the gtir block. Different to the X-Trail sr20vet motor.

Nice little setup tho. Would be fun around the track.

I really don't understand those 2 big oil coolers......
I don't see the reason as I have only a small one and the temps (when outside temp was 30 C deg) didn't got higher than 100 Cdeg on the oil:-s

I spoke with the owner - both are oil coolers - during track days tempratures went even to 140 C deg so they decided to mount these things - now is about 100-110.

Having in mind gearbox issue I'm going to offer £ 5700 for it (not 7600 that the owner wants). Having in mind what you wrote I think this is more than good price.

If I wanted to buy similar GTI-R but with the forged gearbox in UK than the costs will be probably as below:
- £5500-6000 for a car (incl Quaife/PAR gearbox)
- £300 for all formalities and bringing car to Poland
- £1000 for professional modification from RHD to LHD
___________
- £ 7000-7500 but this includes Quaife gearbox for £2000. Without it it may be £5000.

I'm not sure if the owner will be ready to sell it for 5700 but I'll try. Initially the price was £1000 higher

good luck mate - keep us posted how you get on & what the outcome is !
certainly looks like a nice example and if you can get the gearbox sorted a hopefully reliable track car !

not cheap as we know mate. its ok saying quaife box but not many about second hand and as said gear set alone is around 3k without other parts bearings or building. the cage and spec of that car it should be selling 8k box or not
