Ignition timing

Going to do my ignition timing later on.. I have high idle when the engine is warm 1250rpm...

Should this be an issue? Should I resolve this first

Do I need to do total ignition timing slightly confused on what this is seen a video on YouTube? Or just base idle timing.

I can't see no markings neither? Now what ? What do you mean slipp clutch

Crankshaft pulley the one right at the bottom correct?

get someone in car to ride the clutch so it drops rpm below a 1000
looking at pulley from top there are 6 nitches in crank pulley, 2nd nitch from left is tdc
set the gun to 20 degrees and turn dizzy so the tdc mark lines up with the pointer on timing cover
tighten bolts to dizzy

I cant set the gun shal i make markings on the belt?

If you can't set gun then use the last mark on the right to line up with pointer that's 20degrees

You need to find the 6 small marks on the pulley, mark the second from the left with a tiny bit of white paint to make it easier to see . If you can't set the gun slacken the bolts on the dizzy and turn it slowly until the far right mark is level with the pin. Now tighten the dizzy and check again. If the marks don't line up at all it's possible the outer part of the pulley has slipped as it has a.rubber between it and the inner part if that makes spence. If this has happened you could see if bob has a good one or do what I did. Remove the pulley , weld a bar from outer to inner pulley which holds them together , take out number 1 plug and using a tic gauge find exact tdc and then mark with paint on the pulley. Problem is you will need a gun you can adjust to +20 to set the timing up.

Thanks for the replies all done now! Ignition was bang on. Didn't need adjusting. I disconnected the TPS and did it. It's actually set on 18°
I read somewhere that this is okay if you are using high octane fuel...
Which I am using v power nitro. Car is running good just one more issue to address to is the idle!

I read a post on the owners club where they advised removing the tps, revving to 3,500 a few times to reset the ecu then do the timing with it disconnected.
I tried this but my distributer ran out of turn and it doesnt feel right.
Connected the tps back in and retimed it and the dizzy goes smack in the middle of cap at 20degs,

I just make sure TPS set spot on & no silly idle speed problems present then use clutch method to keep idle at 960-990 (Have a digi rpm meter clipped on so both operators can see accurate rpm readings)
