I think my timing is out a tooth but I only had the marks I made when I took the head off it

If I unplugged the maf runs perfect if I plug the maf in cuts out etc

With the maf plugged in and for the car to run I need to de advance the ignition timing for it to run

With the maf unplugged I can have the ignition timing bang in the middle will run idle etc plug in the maf cuts out hunts when you rev it the turbos boosting also and a loud dump out the dump valve

ok its not quite so simple to check engine timing if the oil pump covers on unless you know exactly what your doing and its a bit hard to explain by typing it out.

get a timing gun on it first as the second mark from left on crank pulley (looking at it from the top is tdc.
set the gun to 20 degrees and the mark should there or thereabouts line up with the pointer on the timing cover, if you cant get the 20 degrees or somewhere near it with moving the dizzy back and forth then the engine timing will be out or possibly the damper and outer pulley has moved on crank pulley giving you a false reading.

if its out youll need to phone me and il try explain over the phone how to do it but as said its quite difficult unless you have a good knowledge of cam position etc

I think I know what your talking about with cam position one should be coming of the rock and the other should be going on it or something along they lines? Lol

yep you've got it in one but still easy to get it a tooth out unless you know exactly where the pulleys should be

il take a pic for you if I get time on Friday of a head that's off but with cams fitted so you can see exactly where the sprockets are at @ tdc
then all you have to do is make sure your crank is on the pointer at tdc on no1

yep that's spot on
basically use the front of the head as a line guide and all 4 holes should line up and cam lobes will be adjacent to each other with ex cam on the rock and starting to open.
yes crank pulley should be on 2nd mark from the left which is tdc.
as long as you get the ex cam correct you cant really go wrong with the in cam but il explain fully in the write up

if you could put that pic in how to section please spike il do a proper write up for everyone
