Over the next 3 months my aim is to concentrate on the engine bay and engine hopefull by jan the 1st have a engine in a painted/seam welded bay and running.

May aim is to get 500 plus (turbo depending)

Here is my spec:
Good condition block
Good condition crank
Manley rods
Cp pistions -ordering his month

Good std head
Jun272 cams
Jun double valve springs
Jun titanium retainers

My plans are get the crank lightened and balanced and knife edged if funds allow, get the block checked over to see if i can get away with standard sized pistons. Arp main studs and standard head bolts and obviously all other standrd procedure parts

Head wise i just want a port and polish and rocker arm stopers. I will be assembling it myself. Anyone elserecommend  anything, going to keep updating the thread as ill have loads of questions to ask

smooth the inner rough casting of the block with dremmel or whatever
it helps a lot with oil flow back to sump (did this with mine)

open and match waterways in head to block helps with cooling (did this with mine)

make sure you check and adjust ring gaps prior to installing pistons

uprate oil pump pressure relief valve by placing a shim washer in cap to pre-load spring (old nd trick) and they'll charge you an arm and leg for this by calling it an uprated pump

theres a few little tricks but most of it is common sense if you have a good idea what your doing

tbh guys if you use your noodle and understand measurements and clearances and have the correct tools and parts then an engine is not hard to build.
a lot comes down to how good the machine shops work is with regard to rebore/honing, crank grind or polish etc, cleanliness when building is paramount though as well as not being distracted.
if im building up an engine I always turn my phone off as its easy to forget where you were last at with regard to tightening torques etc

Im sourceung a micrometer and bore gauge over the next couple ofe weeks and going to meaure my block before hand. Tbh im hoping i can get away with just a hone instead of a rebore. But if i do i will only go to 0.5 mm

Also bob do you know if rockerstoppers are gtir specific ?

yes if you get the sr20 ones youll just need to cut the oil splash guard slightly as they snag on that, but other than that there a straight fit
