Ppg gearboxes

Just spoke to my mate at ppg and he recons if there's enough demand ( probably 5 units) he can give us a discount code which would give a 20% discount. I know he has some 1st to 4th synchro kits in and I think they are just doing some straight cut kits.

Best to look on their site and take off 20% I know there expensive but the best in my opinion

Not at all nomad haha. Prices of living here are huge. Im in the city of sydney and pay over half my wage per week in rent and food.

I just keep banking up the credit card and hope the missus will get rich hwhw

Its not that bad!! its all relative.... yeah we earn more but living costs are dearer...

Some things are cheaper though...!!

When I contacted them before, their price list said:

"ALL CUSTOMERS WILL RECEIVE A 30% DISCOUNT ON THE MADE-TO-ORDER RANGE WHEN ORDERING 5 OR MORE OF THE SAME ITEM"

Of course, PPG make a considerable list of "made-to-order" GTiR parts, including:

so I suppose 30% discount would be possible without any favours on these parts if everyone wanted the same set, i.e. the 5-speed Synchro set. Ask if your mate can do 20% discount on top of the 30%-off price!  The real problem (for us UK folk) is the poor AUD-GBP exchange rate. A few years ago this would have been reasonable, but now it's an expensive prospect!

Question. Is it worth it for the quaif or par worth half the price ?

well the thing is with straight cut dogbox your far less likely to break the casing as due to the gear mesh the shafts are less likely to pull apart when under load/torque
with a semi helical cut gearset you will still have that problem but not as much as helical cut gears if you know what I mean.

personally if im honest I could not warrant spending 12k+ on a ppg gearset for a car that's not worth half that amount of money so I would rather purchase a quaife, they are not indestructible by any means as ive broken 2 in the past but far stronger than a standard box.

I was lucky to pick the ppg box up at a fair price so was worth me keeping that and selling on the quaife.

For that price you would be looking to ditch the gtir tranny and do a billet evo conversion. I had a mate thay had one priced at 8k for billet housing and dog set.

Ill ask next time i see him, but is it worth it? I mean is there going to be 5 people serious about buying one cos i know what will happen , ill keep going to see him and haggling down prices then noone will end up wanting one anyway lol

its worth getting a price Darren just out of curiosity but in all fairness no you wont get 5 people to come up with that kind of money
