An alternative for those struggling finding stock gearboxes?

How would an x-trail box fair up? After reading the never ending vet build, an idea popped into my head, Lieghton asked if the stock gti-r box would bolt up and the reply was that the xtrail block is a narrow block like the pulsars so it would ! So I wad thinking would the reverse work an xtrail box on a gtir lump? As standard boxes in good nick are few and far between I thought maybe this could be a viable alternative ? Could be way off the mark but just an idea

Possibly . If it could be done could make for an interesting 4x4 system . As the xtrail have electrical selectable 4x4 .. so you could run 2wd for normal driving then flic it into 4x4 when needed

I've just done abit of reading .. The xtrails that use the sr20vet engine use the automatic cvt box ... so if it could be done it would also mean it would be an auto

same box as whats running on my turbo'd ro9ad going rashiteen

currently sitting at just bovver 200hp until I get a better ic then il crank the boost up and see if the box can take it or if it decides to explode lol

Not sure id want an auto though its all abit pipe and slippers

You can uprate the plates in the cvt box bob ..
Bloke in aus is running 350bhp in an xtrail through the cvt

cvt is a steel link belt & 2 variable diameter pulleys that create the gearing, not good for high torque handling, 4wd on that stuff is bit off too, uses a electo wet clutch on the prop to rear diff to control drive to rear bit like the haldex :-/ not very durable stuff.

From memory the SR20VET in the x-Trail uses a 4spd tranny.

There is plenty of x-trail gearbox's on ebay for couple of hundred quid manual and auto's if anyones brave enough lol .... i take it 4 speed is the auto then ducie ?

What about the mounting points on the box? Also the gear linkage would have to be replaced to a cable type system.

How different is a Celtica gt4 gearbox and transfer box?

Yeah 4 speed auto. I'll post some pics of it once I get off night shift. I have a feeling Mazworx was putting one behind a gtir at one stage. I questioned why the sale of there complete billet gearbox and asked if it was going auto from the X-TRAIL but got reply.

I looked into using it. Mounting it didn't seem hard, trying to get custom bits made for it to hold the extra power was the issue.

cvt came on some xtrails gen 2 & 3
the jdm vet was first gen xtrail only & seems like 4 speed auto (as Ducie points out) only ! did they do a manual on the jdm vet xtrail ?
