With my engine out atm I had a look at my turbo to see if its on its way out as it was blowing blue smoke on throttle lift off,i cant check compression till the engine is in the black one to see if its rings so...On the inlet side I can move the turbo shaft in and out probably 0.5 to 1mm by eye and probably 0.25mm ish maybe up to 0.5mm sidewards play.
Is it past its best??? :-)

Sideways play you can sometimes get away with mate. If you have nearly 1mm of end float in & out id say its near enough had its day Shocked as there should be no end float atall. Is there any oil in your boost pipes?

I can get it rebuilt for you for £300 including return postage & a 360 egree baring put in & he's realy good as alot of the Renault 5 boys use him & ive never heard any bad feed back about him.

This is the guy, hes based in stoke https://www.facebook.com/#!/bernies.blowers?fref=ts

that's handy to know gaz as im very unlucky with tubby rebuilds from the big name people that do them Rolling Eyes
has he got the proper balancing equipment?

matt.....yes it sounds as though the tubby has seen better days tbh but if I were you I would still comp test the engine before paying out for a turbo (just to make sure)
you can easily bolt the turbo up with engine fitted so just compression test it once its bolted in and if all good then send the tubby off

Do u mean when the engines bolted into its new shell?
And yeah I'm gonna compression test it to see what the engines like, cos if I've got engine probs aswell I may aswell plan ahead for the bigger picture.
I really want to go for a bigger turbo, GT2871r, cos I've had some SARD 660cc injectors and a Z32 MAF sat in a box for years, but I'm up for other ideas or bargains If they come along.
I know the GT2871r for the 200SX fits if its cheaper you just need to do a few mods to it .

200sx doesn't run a 2871r matt unless its been modded in which case you just aswell get the right one for gtir as I believe the compressor housing is wrong way round for gtir

I know bob they run a smaller T28 don't they hence only 200bhp off the SR20DET,if that's what you meant.
I know a guy that has done it,rotated the compressor housing and used his standard actuator and bracket. It was a thought incase there's a big difference in price that's all.

I would still check engine comps though before buying another tubby
