Had my car in garage regarding both my oil temp and pressure gauges shooting up to max as soon as car starts, the guy said the cause is a faulty sender, would this affect both gauges? and anyone know where i can get one in the uk

I had oil pressure gauge sender unplugged for a while and the oil temp gauge worked fine! you tried unplugging them both and seeing if it still does it.and have you tried another set of gauges,,could be dodgy earth or some other nightmare wiring problem, best to rule out easy stuff first. before you go buying unnecessary bits.

just looked on youtube and it looks like pro sport gauges all shoot round to max then back as soon as the ignition is turned on.

no they both stay on max, they use to work fine, im thinking maybe it could be a common earth between the 2 gauges, but i dont have a clue where to look, i read that they should be grounded to negative battery terminal?

They should be fine on a nice clean earth to the body at the end of the day the battery is ground to the car so no need to try running wires through Very Happy

Are they shorting anywhere? This happened in my starlet because the SMALLEST bit of wire was resting against the aftermarket head unit cradle thingy

ive checked in the back and the earths look fine, im thinking its something wrong in a place i cant see, maybe where the sender is there is an earth thats got dirty or something, im going to take the sender out and give the connections a good clean and see if the wiring is ok in that area

not sure with the prosport gauges or senders
but the oe gauges are 2 different senders for oil temp and pressure and its highly unlikely for both senders to have packed up at the same time

the guys right in theory.....if the senders knackered it will go straight to earth and the gauge will shoot round to max, but highly unlikely thats the prob if 2 are doing the same on independant senders

yeah thats what i was thinking that they are earthed together, ive not had a look down be the sender yet so ill have a look when the weather picks up a bit, i think its only on 1 sender as the temp goes to the sump
