I have a question for you wiring gurus

When I press my brake pedal my headlights and taillights are turning on scratch

Now i've done alot wiring to fit my digital dash but at no time have a cut any of the factory cluster wiring. Ive only tapped into certain wires as I thought one day I might fit a factory cluster back in. This problem exists even when I have the digital dash disconnected as I put in a plug so I could remove it completely.

I'm at a bit of a lose and I know this is a difficult one as ive played with wiring. Any help would be great Smile

You must be creating a loop somewhere any of the wires to digi dash doubled up or bridges in the plug so even with digi dash disconnected it ls bridged . Can you get multi meter into pins on plug for digi dash start by seeing what’s live when you press your brakes. What did you use to joint in? Any pictures I could take a look at

With the dash disconnected there wont be a bridge anywhere. I just cut and soldered wires into the existing cluster loom. Basically the end result is an additional plug on the standard loom that the digital dash plugs into. I can take a pic tomorrow and get a multi meter on to check.

I was doing some googling and found people have had this same problem on standard cars and suggestions was a dodgy earth but I really have no idea how I can trace that. Everything works fine until i press the brake pedal which is why I never found it sooner.

I'm guessing likely earth issue too .
does dash back lighting and light light status lamp all work as should .
when you say headlights you mean sidelights or actually headlight on dip beam !
are they bright or appear bit dim !
I could see sidelights getting effected
any other odd lighting effects if run through combinations of lighting etc ?

What people mean by dodgy earth is : some circuits especially lighting has a shared earth , so say reversing lights , tail lights , number plate lights , brake lights , indicator lights all share the same earth point .
If the earth becomes high resistance or open circuit due rust normally , then operating one light can feed another light via the common earth wires - so you get strange operation of any or all of the lights .
In your case you know it’s from the brake light circuit - so you start there , with the brake light bulbs and holders and the common earth nearby.

Couldn't put it better ADS. I would locally manually earth the problem bulbs to see if it resolves it.

That's guys, by sounds of it, I'll just need to go though everything. I had have an earth problem with one of the front headlights while ago, i couldn't figure it out so just created a new earth straight from the back of the headlight.

So i used one terminal bulbs instead of the two terminal kind in the passenger side taillight. Remove the bulbs and problem goes away. I need to buy new bulbs tomorrow to confirm so hopefully thats it.

Wish I didnt remove the dash before figuring that out Laughing
