Hi all, seems I have an issue with my GTiR relating to smoke.
Generally these are the symptoms...
Car drives and performs fine, doesn't tend to smoke whilst driving or on a run.
As soon as I get stuck in traffic or come to a stop it can smoke quite badly with blue smoke. Rev or move forward and it clears out.
Now I have an aftermarket induction pipe on so I don't currently have the feed from the rocker cover (right side) going down to the inlet of the turbo, this is just connected to a oil catch can. I also recently found a missing pipe on my PCV pipework so I took that out and blanked off the PVC as that was not working correctly either. Now I was going to route this to my catch can and not block it off but didn't have time before Japfest 2 so drove down to Rockingham with it blocked, car idled better etc. but smoked more now. I have removed the PCV and put a normal outlet on it (without valve inside) and put a filter on the end so it can vent to atmosphere but it still seems to smoke when pulled up now.
When the car was Dyno'd at Bobs it was compression tested and it was fine however I know this doesn't show the whole story. I now have a new induction pipe with the inlet for the breather so I was going to sort that out so there is some vacuum to get rid of the crank case pressure and fumes in the engine but I don't know if this will fully resolve the problem?
I replaced the turbo with a second hand unit around a year ago which was supposed to be ok but I have no idea if it could be that causing the issue. What do people suggest? should I get the breather system working correctly and then see how it goes, I have a rocker cover leak so need to sort that out too but I know the spark plugs don't seem oily etc.
I have 10w 40 in the car atm but wouldn't have thought that was blowing by but might try something like a 10w 50
The engine was rebuild and has JE pistons, Cosworth HG and HKS 264 cams, the shims need sorting as it has always been a tappy top end.
