Hi
I've got bit of a problem with my speedo for some reason always when I'm wearing it when I'm at swimming pool people are giving me some strange looks....

But seriously bloody thing developed intermittent fault. I'll start driving after work or in the morning and speedo, mileage or trip meter are not working, but after I drive few miles trip and miles are starting to work and then speedo kicks in too... It basicly looks like it need some time to warm up. Everything else work absolutely fine. I've got some sort of mileage converter on a back of the dash too. So just wondering if anybody had similar issue and where to start...

Thanks Mike

Speedo, mileage and trip all get there pulses from the same place. As it's got a converter delimiter I'd start with that. Check the wiring and connections - I've seen some that are just twisted and taped up. Not very reliable.
Next I'd take the converter right out to be sure it's not that.
Could be the pulse counter in the speedo head, my Rasheen one got very intermittent and turned out to be a bad soldered joint in the speedo.
After that probably need to check the pulses are getting there, but probably need a scope for that....

Mine does exactly the same thing, a good smack on the dashboard wakes it up for a few seconds.
I thought it would be a sticky dial and a squirt of wd40 might fix it.

Well I like my dash too much... Strange thing is it will wake up in stages first mileage/trip then speedo...

I did that until my dash cracked in the middle lol my electrical tape fix is looking a bit shabby for these shows now.

You can use an led as a simple tester for output signal & good option for those without frequency MM or oscilloscope , workshop manual has basic voltage test for them .
I would check & clean plugs from sensor through to dash cluster with elec contact spray too if sensor itself seems OK,  like others have said the converter unit or it's wiring is good starting point, is ecu logging speed signal ! Check consult port rpm output, good free software available (links section) and basic consult cable for laptop is under £15 if needed .
Clocks are known for circuit board faults and drive motor issues, white dials being common for issues due to rough handling during dial background fitting .

Hey Mike, did you get this fixed?
Mr B, where would the senser be? Is it at the end of the speedo cable inside the tranny?
Very Happy Very Happy

This happened to mine as well. Took it to an Instrument Fitter and they found a faulty "diode" on the PCB, replace the diode, perfect ever since.

Is the pcb in the back of the speedo?
I dont fancy taking the sensor out the transfer box pale
Hopefully its a speedo fault or loose connection.

My old car used to do this, turned out the converter chip was dead. You could try temporarily splicing the speed signal wires back together and see if that fixes it
