Hi guys,

Finally got round to prepping the R for paint but got stuck with one of the vents.

4 of the 6 nuts holding the vent on are seized and just spinning the bolt in the vent.  Is there a knack to getting them off?  The other vent was fine, all nuts removed with no hassle.  Ive tried clamping a pair of mole grips on the bolt to try and stop it turning but no joy, grrrrr  Last resort will be cutting them off but dont want to damage the vent.

I think the bolt or nut is built into the plastic moulding. You know how that little bit that clamps it in place so you can undo the nut always breaks, it probably has.

I've found in the past if you twist it ever so slightly it'll grip but lube it first and don't angle it too much or you'll damage the bonnet/vent. I've cut many an item like this off before as well.

Once off you can stick some heavy duty plastic glue on the bolt top and put copper slip on the end to aid it next time Smile

Just grind the nut off that way when its off you can re glue the thread ... and just replace the nut ....

Thanks chaps, did a cross cut on the stud and nut, came off easy after that. The plastic that holds the stud in has crumbled to nothing, weird how one side is fine but the other is not, suppose 24 years of heat takes its toll!

The seal that goes around the large center vent, can these still be ordered from nissan? or is there something else that can be used? Mines had a crack in for years, since removing the vent it has crumbled in places Mad
