Im pretty sure I have the. 86 housing based on how close my power is to petes and that I have no boost creep issues so I dont think changing cams is going to change things that dramatically.

The 0.64 housings are not expensive but there seems to be huge boost creep issues there which means external wastegate is required along with all its associated costs.

I see the OP hasn't had much to say recently Embarassed

Adjustable cam timing gears could be useful but expect your issues are more linked too low compression & a 3071 with unknown trim - ar
Much prefer 2871 for close to 400hp & road use.

Issues is the wrong word, characteristics would b better. Its just becoming clear to me that I far prefer response to peak power.

Im pretty sure I have a 0.86 a/r housing with a trim of 90 whivh complicates things further as the t25 3071 that comes with a 0.64 a/r housing has a trim of 84 meaning that a housing change will not yeild quite the same results as buying the correct 3071 in the first place although might make for an interesting experiment.

I think you might be right about the 2871 and its time to accept im just going to have to buy a smaller turbo, but then the housing size debate starts all over again and now im used to the power delivered by the 3071. Mad

Yes characteristic would be right way to phrase it .
Not a fan of the t25/28 based 30s myself .
I too love fast response as that what the R is all about for me, I really like the gt28rs but gt2871r can be good for 380hp range & fast response with right spec & decent exhaust & intercooler setup. Should be able match your currrrent hp but with more on tap power.
Want to have a play with some mitsi evo turbos but need get bogdan make me a manifold or I do a steel one.

I think the 3071 is a good turbo and response is decent for achievable power but just a bit peaky for me.

I might have a go at the smaller housing and external wastegate as it's a cheaper option in the short term and if it doesn't work out then at least the external gate isn't a waste, I would like to start stainless tig welding so a good opportunity there.

Evo twin scroll? twin scroll setup would be great but doesn't seem a common goal and don't know why? Setup costs likely.
