your best bet is to buy an aftermarket fan controller and fit it into the pipework from rad.
this way you can be sure your fans will cut in as you sometimes can forget to use a manual switch or leave it on too long where it gets too cool which then causes other problems if engines not at optimum running temp. that's assuming you cant find the problem with the initial fan set up (just remember that the earth is the trigger wire for the fans)

if you still want to wire a switch then do it via the relay box.
find the fan relay and remove it, get a short piece of wire and with ignition switched on bridge the live feed to one of the signal feeds to fan and youll notice that they cut in.
once you've located the correct ones run 2 wires back through the bulkhead to dash and fit a switch (ideally a warning light switch when fans are on) then just connect one side of wire to off and other to on side of switch and hey presto!

thanks bob for info so unless i buy an aftermarket fan controller theres no way of making the fans kick in on switch and automaticlly unless i had a import and bridge the trinary switch? and could u point me in the right direction for one of those aftermarket jobbies? so i can look at the price?

thanks

if your not in a mad rush I will be removing one soon which will come with the hoses, separate water temp gauge ect

or just look on ebay and type in rad fan controller kits

but yes the ac triniary switch should work by linking that too unless you have a bad earthing problem somewhere to the ecu

Here's a bit of the circuit if you want to add a switch or relay. A simple relay and switch from the live side of the fans to 12v would do the job (not forgetting a fuse) and still leave all the original controls in place. But as Bob says you'll have to remember to turn it off/on at the right times...  Smile

+1 on this method.
I used a salvaged nissan relay & fuse to add secondary power circuit to the fans, make effort to supply trigger for your relay via ignition switched live & also a highly visible warning light is a must, handy if standard sensor or relay fail & have used it few times when stuck in traffic & blazing sun ...
