My low power (265bhp) car feels just about fast enough on tight country roads where straight line speed is not important.I dont think pulsars are good straight line cars, they really come alive at lower speeds (under 110mph). If set up well they have superb levels of grip. You have to remember pulsars are almost 25 years old now and can still blow away most modern hot hatches

I like the pulsar for the power off the line! Particularly when modded! I think they're good, and it's always good at the traffic light Grand Prix when the other car is in utmost shock after, always get a little smile if you see them again! Got a couple of timing slips with my 0-60mph time at 3.4 seconds..... In the damp!! It does pretty well on the motorway (private) too, had a race with one of those v8 m3 things, he was surprised when I stuck to his arse all the way until he hit the 155 limiter, mine was just getting into its stride too!! Love it! Wink

I was hoping for a quicker 0-60 time to be honest, but it was damp!! Before my last couple of mods it's was 3.4 in the dry!!
Lots pal, forged, quaifed, lightened, GTX3071R Hybrid with smaller exhaust housing and motorsport pack etc and then all the usual stuff...... 430 horses at 1.7 bar! Will be running at 2 bar very shortly though with the new HKS EVC 6 I've bought to control it, so hopefully 460ish to come.... With not much lag!! Wink

I'm like a kid in a toy shop with the R, really enjoy it! Smile

It's got JE pistons and Manley rods, but the rods aren't needed really as the stock ones are very strong! Nope, no liners or anything done to the block other than a bit of honing! To get nice power, I recommend getting the head professionaly gas flowed, it's an expensive job bt deffo helps create the torque and the power! Smile

je pistons are one of the best to use for hard driving on track due to the compound materials they are made from. they are a loose bore fit when cold so are a bit noisy but soon as temps are up they expand and so are perfect for mega hot running where engine is living near the red line.
we have used them in our track car and done over 3k track miles on that engine now and still in great condition, although I do refresh it after every season and check it over due to the use it has as nothing lasts if you don't keep on top of things but you can still see the hone marks on cylinder walls so no wear at all.

case of horses for courses really

I know what its like to have a head really worked on.
I used CNC enginering AKA rick woods enginering and spent £1200 on a h3ad for my fiesta rs turbo and what a difference it made.

Who is the name of choice then when it comes to machining parts. Mechanically I would do everything my self.

Ric wood motorsport in Stockport??
I had my 2 litre Nova there a few times.
Can't vouch for his heads cos i used Bill Blydenstein.that cost me just shy of £400.
So how much of an effect does flowing a forced induction have.

thats the one. He took me and his mate on a tour of his worshop. We were proper drooling at what h3 had I there as in cars. Lutus cortina and some tvr from some racing series..

he has so much machiny upstairs. .

u had bigger skinny valves. 3 angles valve seats and cut back bronze guides. Plus porting to the inlet and exhaust side and if made such a difference. But ALOT of money. He reckoned the head was good for 350bhp.
He had some Nissan GTR heads in there. He recons he done the headwork on the fastest uk GTR. Plus does alot of subaru work for a guy down in Plymouth called alan jeffries. !!!!

But I loved his work.

I bought the block and new pistons and rods built up, so don't know about engineering work for that.
For my head work, I used Tim Radley at Racing Developments in Gloucester. He was an absolutely sound bloke, was the first pulsar head he's done as well, usually does heads for the world superbikes! He did all the 3 angle valve seats and fitted me bronze valve guides and all that! I supplied the head and the guides, and my bill was a grand which I didn't think was too bad!
