My last 2 pulsars did exactly the same, and so does this one, if driving with a bit of pace just can't select 5th gear til you wait for revs to drop and slow down a little, why is this? Anything I can do in my driving style to make it work?

Sounds like 5th gear syncro, common fault at high revs... Try double clutching when changing from 4th to 5th at high revs. Worked for me on my old box

clutch drag wont affect 5th gear selection
as gaz said more than likely the syncro in box and double the clutch will resolve that issue

I can't get 1st or reverse either when it's hot, so it's not just 5th

maybe im a shit driver then haha

but seriously, all 3 pulsars iv had have seemed to crunch into 5th gear if accelerating hard in 4th upto like 6.5k revs and then immediatly selecting 5th gear

Mine crunched (not all the time) going into 5th gear from the day I bought it, that was 14 years and 145,000km (90,000miles) ago.
As said, if I change gears slowly it doesn't crunch, but if I am playing rapid and try quick changing then small crunch.
It has never bothered me because driving slowly it is always changed at around 3000rpm.
Can only assume the synchro doesn't spin fast enough or isn't good enough too allow quick changes to mesh correctly.

All fixed Smile didn't realise there was a adjustable rod on the master cylinder, adjusted it by about half a cm and clutch and gearbox is lovely now!
