I actually have two other different sets of production figure saved somewhere that I could quote but I have no idea where I got them from

I know series 2 cars were not supposed to have umbrellas but one of my mums did. Never checked her first one because we never even thought to look.

Somebody pointed out the umbrella to us in her second car

she had 2 cars

1st was k reg series 2, it as series 2 interior, series 2 badges and no sunroof. Never checked for umbrella.

Her second car was k reg. series 2 interior, series 2 badges, had sunroof. 100% definately had umbrella. Maybe it was added as an extra by sum body or maybe it was built on the crossover point and had a series 1 chassis. Who knows but it had umbrella because we used to take the piss out of the shitty Nissan umbrella Laughing

The only way to verify this is via the chassis numbers (manufacture dates).

Registration years in the UK have nothing to do with manufacture dates, only with the first time that a vehicle was registered.

Example, a 1990 Japanese manufactured vehicle is imported and registered in the UK between 1 August 1992 – 31 July 1993 will have K registration, but it will still be an early series 1 model (1990), not a series 2.

Did your mother have UK Sunny's or Japanese Pulsars, because they were different cosmetically, as in some of the trim and interiors.

Oh and to elaborate on the point, NO series 2 bodies had the umbrella housing. It was one of the purposeful changes between the two series production dates.

As I said, Chassis number is the only true verifier, that will tell the DATE of manufacture, NOT the date of first registration
.

I know what you are saying but my mums car was an anomaly
Maybe thigs were changed on it and I know the reg plates do not mean the manufacture date because my dad used to buy brand new cars when the new model came out but would wait several months to register it so it was on the new reg plate.

Here's all the info I can remember of the car.

It was K reg
Black
Sunroof model
Jap import
Had umbrella
Had Nissan steering wheel
Had phase 2 seats (no hole in head rest)
Think it had phase 2 roof liner but I could be confusing that with her other GTIR
Had Nissan badge not P badge
Had illuminated ignition surround
Had the blueish window tints as apposed to the bronze

That's about all I can remember. Unfortunately have no record of chassis number because it was over 10 years ago

I'm not saying that regs are set in stone for production date and I'm not saying phase 2 models come with an umbrella but I am say my mums car DID HAVE an umbrella and was registered on a k plate and had all the usual phase 2 parts but it could of easily had bits changed over at any point like the interior, because people do change interiors on them and the umbrella could of been added by somebody at a later date, that has also been done before.

That is only true if the car was not registered in Japan before import or if there was a cock up at the dvla.

For example my car was imported in the year 2000 but is registered as a j reg to correspond with when it was first registered

Here's my theories on my mums car

1. It was messed about with and had phase 2 interior installed and just so happened to be a late registered phase 1 and by coincidence was on a k plate

2. It was a phase 2 but somebody had cut a hole in the door shut and installed an umbrella/holder

3. Maybe.. just maybe.. It was one of the last phase one chassis made in the change over point and had bits from both, it's not likely but not impossible either.

Was the sunroof an option specific to either a phase 1 or phase 2 or was it available on both?

I would like to know what the deal is with my mums old R because I have always known it was a bit of and oddball having phase 2 interior, being a k reg (I know reg dosent mean everything) and having an umbrella as I know phase 2 models do not have umbrellas.
