Side exit exhaust?

Is there any advantages or disadvantages to side exit exhausts? They look good, and Iv considered getting one made as my exhaust scrapes quiet badly getting on and off my drive!

There cool as f##k mate. Bound to be some advantage as your getting rid of gasses much sooner I'd have thought

Advantage shorter pipe run, disadvantage quite noisy & likely to attract police attention, same flow can be achieved with good custom 3" system& kept very quiet just my 2p worth lol 

I see, they do look sweet, don't want it too noisy as want to be able to go on tracks!

I have a front exit, and theoretically yes the quicker the gases exit the system the better, i have not been pulled by the police as yet and it is loud but i get use to it lol

You wont get on track with front exit mate lol even with a baffle insert still loud

I'd like one but afraid neighbours wouldn't and if you want to go on the track Pete it's a no no.

It's irritating getting on and off the drive, scrapes like mad! But yea the whole reason I got this one was to do track days so will defeat the purpose if I was to do that!

Depends on the baffle box you use .... think the goose is 104db

That's the huge dis-advantage with them, you won't get on a track Pete
Many have fly by noise limits now   
Many tracks now have a 98db limit so you have to look for days that have a 105db limit and no fly by limits
I've been kicked off brands in an evening session and kicked off twice at donnington once in my Westfield megabusa and once in the pulsar
Also I know this sounds crazy but if your travelling in outside lane of a motorway and your cars a flame kicker you can actually set light to the shrubs in central reservation and if you get caught you will get a massive nick from the ol bill, I know this as I drove madmax's car after buying it a few years back and that used to throw flames out about 3ft on gear change and over run, definitely killed a few shrubs with that in the summer lol

Upside is better breathing and spool on turbo
Easier if doing any work to back of engine or engine removal
Less weight

better spool? that's all ways a good thing! if I wasn't intending on tracks I would do it, but as I am I don't want to run the risk of disappointment! iv took your advise bob and its booked in this Saturday for another map, not a live map as a friend of mine said I would probs be better off on the rollers as its safer? Not sure if that's true but its booked now, Darren at d w r performance in chesterfield. He seems to know his onions, he has built a lot of high powered evos and worked for noble for 17 years, and seemed to know a lot about the sr20 dets gonna see what he can do and will let you know the results!

As said on phone better keeping what you have and getting it mapped for good drivability, it makes a whole world of difference just ask Glenn on here

What's that costing Pete and what are you getting? A new mappable ecu or is yours mappable already

£250, the ecu I have is mappable, basically told him I want to get a bit more power out of it but not push the turbo to its limits, and to make sure its all running tickety boo, just see what he thinks, asked him to get a few flames kicking out as well cos im a big kid

Im on a low boost setting at the mo as need to swap few bits over, made 350 @ 1.1 bar mate, should be getting final map over next few weeks to just over 400, dont want to much as will screw up handling i feel
