Probably a stupid question - but just wanted to ask before i order something i dont need....

Is the flexi section on my goose system basically the CAT replacement part ?

Just failed MOT as this section must have got damaged on a speed hump or something - major leak of gases apparently !

Just looked on fleebay as i need a replacement by the end of the week....

Is this the same thing but in hard pipe form ?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-Inch-Stainless-Decat-Cat-Replacement-Exhaust-Pipe-Nissan-Pulsar-GTiR-SR20-DET-/350698659835?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item51a744dffb#ht_3225wt_952

As awlays any advice most welcomed

BOB - do you have any of these flexi or hard in stock that i can use to replace the damaged one on my goose ?

AL.

I don't think it is, I was always under the assumption the flexi allowed for movement in the exhaust system, and the part you are looking at won't fit! As that is a cat replacement and not a new flexi which is what you need! I hope this info is correct, just trying to be of some use lol!

You are correct pete the flexi is part of the front section ... the cat or replacement cat is after that .... you can buy the flexi on its own ... if you can weld or know somebody who does if bob doesnt have one ...

ok - so i think i know what im looking for now - ill try and call Bob in a bit if he dont reply on here - is it a direct replacement part ?
I assume your talking about welding to fix the section Leighton - not weld it in place ?

Check out this item I found on eBay: http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=350873361794
like this mate to give you an idea .dont buy it as its silly money lol ... so you would cut your one off and weld this one in place .... i do beleive you can get ones with tails each side so it can just be cut off and the new one slides over your excisting pipe and clamped on with exhaust clamps ....

now i see what you mean - for some reason i though it was an interchangeable part - i better jack the car up this afternoon and take some measurements....ggrrrr - could do without this - speaking with the garage tomorrow as their man who does this kinda stuff was out today - hopefully i can source the right part and have him fit it with not to much labour costs.
Cheers for the info & help mate - much appreciated.

I bought one for about 30 quid around 6 yrs ago from a pace that made stainless exhausts think it was 2 and a half inch. You cant get away from the fact you need to unbolt the front section of exhaust. 3 bolts at turbo end and 2 were it meets the cat and one small bolt on a bracket under the engine. Mark a line through the centre of the flexi and exhaust so when you cut the old flexi out you can put the 3 parts back in exact line or could be a night mare. Also measure the flexi length so you cut out exact same length. If you can do this yourself then just get someone to weld it , it will only cost about £30. When you refit exhaust just use clear silicone as thats all our local stainless exhaust place use and it has never failed saves you sourcing gaskets. This is what i used and been fine ever since

thanks for the advice mate - really helpful - unlikely ill attack this myself - but great to have this info to discuss with the place that did my MOT - hoping if i source the flexi they can fix it for me and then re-test for the pass.

Mate - really appreciate the offer and would normally be all over that - but not sure i can get to you this weekend......  Neutral

Can you PM me your number and ill call you if i can borrow a car ?

Are all goose systems for the GTIR the same bore ?
I always assumed mine was 3" but looking on-line some are 2.5" ?

I've found a place that sell the flexi sections for a resonable price but i dont know what my system bore is - so guess im gonna have to get back under and measure that now !

so i have sourced one for £26.99
63.5mm bore - flexi length 200mm with 50mm flange either side to be clamped on

think im going to just order this and have it sent directly to the place re-testing my MOT - they can put it on !  Wink

Buckym120 - really appreaciated your offer - top man - i probably would have struggled to get over to you this w/end as im boring cars here and there at the mo.

thanks for all the advice with this lads !  Smile
got the part i needed and the garage that did my MOT fitted it for me !
(although annoyingly they recommended i get the bolt on flexi - they welded it on anyway - so i could have payed less and got the weld on version  Evil or Very Mad )

turns out the 2cool2fast manifold i had on there had a nice crack down the center section where all the pipes meet - so i had the original put back on for the short term & to get it through the MOT.

whilst they had all that off i got them to fit my new 'Bogdan Elbow' (seemed silly not to while it was all off) so will be interesting to see if i notice the difference.

Long story short - ticket now sorted and legal for RR Day !
