1Fitting New Turbo Elbow - Any Advice ? Empty Fitting New Turbo Elbow - Any Advice ? 3rd March 2014, 12:29 pm

Hey guys,

Got a new Elbow from Bogdan's group buy last year - had it sitting about and figured it was time i thought about fitting it.

As title says - any advice or things i should know before attempting this ?

For background - I'm no mechanic and have limited experience in general car mantainance.
Mostly self tought or learnt through watching others but like to give such jobs a crack.
Have quite a basic set of tools but should have everything i need.

I read Bogdans fitting manual so have an idea of what needs to be done but never removed the turbo for starters so all new to me really !

Would i be wise to purchase new gaskets before i give this a shot ?

Are there any particular things i need to do or watch out for when removing turbo - like oil feed or similar ?

Any advice would be much welcomed - Many thanks...... AL.

I would say to replace all the gaskets while it's off if they haven't been done in the past few years.

I remember that one of the manifold bolts underneath are a right pain to get to but other than that pretty straightforward

Watch out for manifold studs, buy all new gaskets and the oil return pipe at the bottom can be awkward sometimes to line up along with some of the manifold bolts. Take manifold turbo of as one unit Wink Its one of those things once youve done it once it is a straight forward job

thanks for the responses
just did some gasket research - they cost a bit more than i was expecting
looked up the part numbers on-line then spoke to a nice chap called Paul at
http://www.online-parts.co.uk/nissan/#
Turbo Outlet Gasket - £27.37
Turbo Inlet Gasket - £6.38
Exhaust Manifold Gasket - £12.84
Exhaust Gasket on to Elbow - £4.60
all above include VAT and are straight from the factory (nearly £55 then delivery on top)

Can anyone recomend anywhere else ? Some ebay parts seem a little cheaper - or is it the age old - you get what you pay for & better to go for Nissan parts ?
