Hesitation and knocking from brakes

Why get somebody to fit the fuel pump it really is an easy job even for a novice nothing complicated mate .

because i burst my fuel lines trying it first time and they mentioned rewiring it too, i figured i be aswell getting them to do it as they need to check the fueling too and if anything is wrong then it gauranteed, im not too mechanical minded myself and i dont want something to go wrong with fuel when my kids in the car

The thing is when undoing the fuel lines you dont just yank the shit out of them to get them off the nipples you ease them off  push them out the way unclip the plugs then undo the big ring on top of the fuel tank lift up the middle section then unplug the ones underneath stick stick your hand in the tank around the pump cage give it abit of a tug towards you pull the whole cage and pump out of the tank cut the wires with the plug on the end solder  the two wires together  put shrink wrap tubing on put walbro in the cage cable tie it to the cage back end up front end downwards and refit all in reverse if it took you more than an hour your on the wrong car ..... see what i mean  piece of piss .

I know what digi is saying, I did the same thing years ago, tried to carefully remove the fuel lines with a flat screwdriver and damaged them so had to run knew ones  

yeah it seems easy enough but also running the wiring and getting fuel checked afteral it is fuel im dealing with which i dont wanna blow anything up, when i burst the pipe i drove about 2 miles with the kids in the car to be told by a pedestrian my car was leaking and it was pissing out via the fuel pipe about tenner worth of fuel kinda scared me to think only a spark could blow it up

i usually end up with more to fix when i attempt some jobs lol

When you bare in mind electrics are run inside the fuel tank without issues however i do understand about having kids in the car i as myself have kids .....  i guess im just tighter than you and begrudge paying through the arse for somebody to do  something wich im more than capable to do myself ....plus i know its done properly  rather than palmed of to a spotty little teenager getting payed peanuts ......  take an example my bosses son got a car on finance  had it two days and it started making a racket so he rung them up they said he had to take it to a halfords auto centre after 2weeks they pinned it down to a flywheel and sorted it out he got hes car back a day later he come round as he was worried about a noise  so took me out to listen wich to me sounded like a wheel bearing jacked it  and the numb nuts didnt even do the wheel nuts up wich was lucky he come round and i checked as it was about to fall off went over what they had  done  list was both front wheel nuts extremely  loose gearbox bolts missing things not put back badly  ....so in a short you see why i have little faith .

yeah im kinda the same i do like the learning experience and you can never trust some garages which im prepared to travel to get a proper job done, and did attempt it but where the pipe burst it covered the top of the tank where the electrical wires plug into the disc you unscrew which gave me a little scare, which is why i spoke to protuner and he mentioned having the pump rewirred as they get old and dont hold as much voltage, when he mentioned that i thought he was trying to con more money out me till i seen gaz's post on the same thing so i thought the guy must know his stuff considering he deals with sr20's anyway, it was gonna cost me 100 to get the fueling checked and 120 for the pump fitted and rewiring done so i think that was fair enough considering the ball ache id get from the missus for trying to be a hero

well changed plugs leads and fuel filter the old plugs had never been gapped so were at 0.3 or something dunno if that affects performance, anyway changed them for bcr8es properly gapped, when i removed the fuel filter one of tge pipes was very corroded and broke away so sorted that also, still got to test it but hopefully its sorted, car going to get fuel pump done on wednesday so hope all is well

all sounds good and yes that small a plug gap will affect the way its running massively

Would only rewire pump if voltage particularly low when checked.
Main thing is to de-pressurise the fuel system prior to any work then you don't get fuel everywhere. stuck old rubber pipes on metal fittings can be awkward but a very small electical cross head worked up a little way & a bit of wd sprayed in & trying to rotate pipe then do same opposite side will get them off with no or minimal damage. other thing is check & check again for leaks & fuel pump supply once up & running. its all quite easy if remain calm & leave the big hammer & prybar in the tool drawer ;-)

well i tested it and it even worse its now backfiring on boost and hesitating so thinking ive done something wrong? only thing i noticed was the fuel filter i bought went in upside down compared to the old one which i though was wierd

gonna try my old leads back on tomorrow and recheck the plug gaps i used a gap coin and got to 0.70 on the gaps

didnt think about depressurising the fuel system so i got fuel all over the place, the wiring i think will just get done for peace of mind i think

theres an in and out on a fuel filter, you've not put it wrong way round have you?
that would cause misfire big time if there wrong way round

well thats what i thought but yes it is marked with out but the opposite way to the older filter which i thought it may be a wrong filter

Put the old fuel filter on and take it for a run.
If it still happens then its not that...

well checked gaps and sorted them as they were wrong car pulls better but still same issue really so will see what happens with the fuel pump

Thought you set the gaps to 0.7 mate?

Have you done a fault code check?
Could be crank angle sensor?
What's the Rimini g of the dizzy set at?

What fuel you using? Super unleaded?

yeah using super unleaded embarassed to admit i used the wrong measurments when gapping them lol used the inches side not the mm i feel like a twat for that, fault code is 55, i dunno about dizzy thats also new aswell

once fuel pump is done then i guess that will rule out all the simple things, wondering if it is maybe the pipe i fixed, maybe need to drop the subframe and fix it properly i used 8mm fuel pipe which looked the same

I'm guessing your timing is out on dizzy! Who fit it and timed it up?

i done it myself just swapped them over, didnt know timing had to be done but then again the dizzy has been fine since i changed over

I bet there's your problem
18 degrees standard or 20 degrees advanced.
You need to time it up!
