Going to be changing the rubber fuel pipes which are on top of the fuel tank this weekend does anyone know the spec of them so i can pick new ones up figure im going to replace all 3 while im there assume they are all the same?  also while the tank is out is there anything else that should be done i am goin to put some rust proofing and underseal? dont know what to get though so any help with this is much appreciated.

Also how to remove the tank after the subframe is out?

What sort of time will it take to do the job? and anything else which i should know that is proably going to go wrong.

read that you disconnect the prop shaft, suspension struts, calipers and a few sensors then the 4 bolts holding the subframe on then drop, "easy"?

Thanks in advance

I do believe the tank is held up by a couple of straps to drop it down ....before you start i would have a check make sure you have two axle stands to hold the rear end up and if possible to trolley jacks as you will need to lower isubframe down and pull the subframe out the way and obviously putting it back up especially if your doing it on your own .

just undo the 3 bolts on top of suspension in the boot then undo the 4 subframe bolts and jack the car up, that will give you enough clearance without making a huge job of it
plus youll still have enough room to slap some underseal on there

little tip though............be very carefull that you do not snap the main subframe studs that go into the chassis or it then becomes a real bitch of a job to do as youll need to cut n weld the rear chassis

if it feels like one of them is turning and will possibly snap then stop, give it a good coating of penetrating oil and heat it up with a blow torch then undo it

Thaks guys, im going to give the studs a good few coatings of wd40 ove the next few days, bob do you mean not to remove the whole subframe just jack the car up enough to get in there?

Any idea the size of fuel pipes i need?

no, undo the subframe bolts and suspension topmounts (3 nuts either side) then jack the car itself up so it leaves the whole subframe with wheels etc sitting on the ground, depending then on access you may have to undo the rear brake pipes as you do not want to stretch them

that will give you plenty of access to remove the tank and underseal that part too without having to struggle with shifting the whole subframe about as its quite a weighty lump.
when your done simply lower the car back onto the subframe and bolt it up again

Isn't there also a small breather pipe for the fuel tank which should be disconnected before dropping the subframe?

Also there's more than just 3 pipes above the tank so make sure you have enough so all pipes can be replaced.

Are you planning to get it all done in a day??

The small breather is of the diff not the fuel tank.

yeah hopefully only a day but i have the whole weekend as my budget, took me that long to do the clutcj so figured this couldnt be any worse of a job, i have been looking at waxoyl spray cans can this be used alone or do i need over stuff aswell, wont be replacing the brass pipes as i dont have a flaring tool so just all the rubber pipes that are there, i was just going to remove the subframe completely so i can give it a good clean aswell.

will fuel pipes from halfords do the job? say 2 metres?

thanks for the help Smile

so went out to start prepping the car so everything was easy enough to get to and blasting wd40 over all the bolts, looked at the 4 subframe bolts and they looked rusted too fck and was thinking this aint gonna be an easy job, got the breaker bar out to try and free them off and suprisingly they came loose with not too much effort so loosened them off and then retightened them, i feel a bit better that this might not be much of a problem job Smile
