tbh if your db reading is 116 I wouldn't waste my money trying to get on a track as youll never get it low enough even with a bung fitted

what rpm was that reading taken at?

dB's is what i do for a living... i would stay away from dB killers, bungs, etc as said above they add pressure to the system and without proper testing who knows what trouble may be caused. most sellers have caveats/disclaimers saying it will make it quieter but who's to know what might happen to other things etc...

i see you have side exit but even then 116dB is mega loud i suspect your phone is wrong.

maplins do a sound level meter, set it to 'A' weighted high range and follow the test requirements of the track you want to visit.

if you want quiet get a custom place to put in a huge straight through silencer, like this one from a boat!

interesting product, it is basically a weighted spring valve. the theory is when airflow reaches a certain velocity it will be fully open. the fact that it will be fully open means that it will probably not be any quieter at high revs so probably no good for track days. (maybe a bit because it is still a slight blockage, depends how many dB's you're trying to shave off.)

probably be quite a lot quieter at low revs mooching around town and you'll get less evil stares from old ladys and the police Smile

here's a cross-sectional picture:
http://s3.fivestar-trade.com/parts/image_l/2500010-3.jpg

i would be suspicious of the affect it may have on throttle response etc, it all depends on the spring load and one would hope Apexi being a big company have done some serious airflow testing!

i am amazed at this - good idea in some ways but stupidity/human error is gonna cause some problems...
http://www.nengun.com/apexi/exhaust-control-valve

people are gonna forget it's closed, put pedal to the metal, hit high revs and who knows what might happen, the car might stall/freak out or it might go BOOM?

there are electronic ecu controlled valves and vacuum controlled valves:
http://www.scorpion-exhausts.com/siteadmin/site_images/uploaded_photo/big/1249_06~_tail_pipe+valve.png

a lot of research goes in to exhausts and airflow and noise on powerful cars because by default they are loud! For the sake of argument a V12 is 3 times louder than a 4 cylinder... Some employ vacuum or electronic controlled valve systems like in that picture. I would suggest they mainly do it to comply with EC Type Approval driveby noise levels. The magic 'sport' button that clarkson always presses will fully open these valves and all hell breaks loose Smile Technically speaking your exhaust noise levels would probably be illegal with this button pressed!?!? (small print will probably say 'not for road use')
