Thought i'd share this with you all - has anyone ever had the same issue ??

Headlight (passenger side) went - not a drastic job I thought - weekend arrives so battery comes out, unscrew the cap that protects the gattor, pull on the connector....wont move, try a bit harder, still no joy, one last attempt and bingo -but why was it stuck

A Simple Job Is Never Easy GtirMeltedHeadlightPlug

Seems one of the wires leading into the connector block had perished with age and shorted or arced and melted the connector block onto the buld terminal ! NICE !

BOB - I'm hoping you have one of these from the many car's you've stripped ?

Let me know and ill give you a call - will need to replace mine sharpish

Many thanks,

AL.

Look on eBay there are some that have a ceramic core.they would probably be a better option

it's because the headlight draw to much power/amps for the plugs / wires . the way to stop it doing it again is to run the headlight plug via a relay with all new wires .
So use the wire that normally feeds to bulb to trigger a relay then power from relay to the bulb ...

Isn't that the actual connector to the bulb? If it is then a relay won't make any difference as the power is still going through the bulb. sunny
Over the years the connectors corrode or get a bit loose and with the small extra resistance soon get very hot and melt.

It will stop it doing it again if you use decent grade wire with new plugs for headlights

Yep, definitely agree with the wire and plugs. May as well do both sides while you are at it.

Yep ! The wire on the right hand side (most melted side) looked corroded inside the connector.

Would it be better to get a new set of connectors directly from Nissan ?

I was planning to use a second hand one as a quick fix as MOT is due in a few weeks i think !

Mine point exactly nissan would probably charge £12+ for the connector maybe more if you say its an import lol and tbh it would be no better qaulity than elsewhere .
