The clips split apart so I reckon I could fix it myself by replacing the wire.

Yeh but the same fuse rating value !
easy enough do a temp fix and pretty easy pick up another from one of the hoarders up your way,

Dont suppose you know the voltage ratng Mr B? My local motor factors sells the wire for pennies, i just need to pick the right one.

Factory Wire insulation colour is the indercator of the amperage.

Its just a thick'ish black wire. Tried to google what amperage it is but didnt have my luck

If you got a auto shop with proper fuse wire (fireproof insulation and normally printed along the cable) just matching wire gauge and length should be close enough .
