Nice, what size are they? 15/16? Guessing you bought them brand new.
Had a set of 17’s on my old Sunny Gti.

Been getting a bit of knock noise at 3k in third gear recently,nothing in fourth or fifth. just assumed it was just random, until it got a bit more louder. check on ecu logs no signs of det...

stripped bottom end off to see what was going on.

Are the bearings from 1 to 4 right to left?

left to right no1 cylindar being the spun ones..

It's a rebuild time . Did it happen on a street or racing? Looks like oil starvation, pump failure/ wrong oil of application, etc. Shooting from the hipp at the moment. Teardown will reveal the truth.
We all like rebuild threads with new shiney bits and pics

have always drove below max rpm,and oil changed 9 months ago with decent 10/50w oil.no sign of oil pressure drop.
but this will bake your noodles

Have had the engine now for 15 years,never had it apart
previous history unkown,supposedly built by Hiteq back in the day for one of thier customers
Has a custom crank not sure but was told it was 2.2
on inspection carn't see any names on piston or crank.but defo has h beam rods and crank is not stock.
Big question is why has someone fitted 19mm gtir bearing on that crank pin when the reest are 17.if a 2.2 tomei stroker crank they should have fitted 17mm all round
someone bodged it..

Ok that is weird, a bit to wide for 19mm but i guess it bashed it a bit. Is the crank salvageable, what's the state of the conrod? At a guess the 15 year has taken its toll. Pics, pics, pics!!!

The rod spec is what determines 17 or 19mm shell fitment .
What rods is it and what shell width they been machined for .
17mm bearings look likely good spec dry film coated .

No idea if they have been machined for 19mm bearing how do you tell?

No 1 conrod cleaned up with 600 wet and dry paper doesn't loo to bad methinks


crank pin seem ok when you run nail across it,no deep score marks,unable to get measurement on it due to no room instu.

Tomei website say not to use GTIR Bearing on their stroker cranks

tang groove has to be notched  to make a 19mm sit central in the rod .
You can clearly see they notched for 17mm bearings .

ideally that engine needs stripping as you going have metal fragments everywhere .
the main bearing oil feed grooves are great for trapping debris and debris maybe blocking bearing feeds to some extent .
I'd also want check main bearing condition and the oiling holes and slots debris free and correct 360 oiling bearings.
crank journals also need polishing at minimum .
Bottom end failures are a pain and a full strip is best way forward .
Second failure could loose crank rods and even block if unlucky, debris reaching cam oil feed bar causes rapid damage too .

I second Mr.B, it is a bit of a mess. Since there are pretty tight tolerances i would check rods for trueness/roundness just to be on a safe side. And full steam bath for parts!

well i put in a set off con rod bearings..have done 600 miles and this happened

Oh no! out of curiosity what were you doing when it happened? feeding it?

Feeding it noo....was giving it some beans,right good thrashing so to speak engaged 4 th gear and was followed by loud bang and lots of heavy grinding noises,unable select any gear other than 3 rd.carn't remmber the last time i took gearbox out..

well at least it better than looking at cranks and rods again ... and you broke it while having fun at speed .
Good thing is you getting stuck in and box split already :-)
Hopefully broken teeth not trashed rest of it, most of ones I done had most of gears fit for scrap with bad wear/damage .
Hope you have it back together soon for another shake down :-)

Thanks B,, while its out going replace clutch..not sure with what..strengthen clutch fork,change steering rack and fit my modena diff.
