Was it like this before it went ? Sounds like bottom end knocking to me

When we bought it there was a slight ticking sound, but we thought it was the rocket cover because when we pushed it down the noise stopped. We took it to the garage, had an engine flush and service then the knocking started. I rang bob, bob said it could be the bottom end or the sump, I took pictures of it and will upload them soon.

You need to start stripping the engine to see what's wrong.
If it was me I would take the rocker cover off first and see if there's anything obvious.
Should only take 30 minutes to remove. Pretty straight forward.
Checking bottom end is a lot more involved but can be done while the engine is still in the car.
Didnt the garage check the old oil for metal particles ?

I have always thought engine flush isnt good for turbo's?

When you say sump. What you need to be looking for is weather it's dinted in which starves the oil pickup that is close to bottom of sump to start with ( for obvious reasons) if this happens it kills the engine i.e. Starvs it of oil and we all know what that means

It's difficult to be 100% but the sump looks ok to me. If there's any denting there it would be minimal IMO

Ill try taking it apart next weekend as garage is now closed. I take it from the above comments needs rebuild.

Sounds like further investigation is needed wirk out if its top or bottom .. not unless you planned on rebuilding it anyway ?

Seems strange if you press down on the rocker cover it stops not unless its vibration ? I would start with the top ...

Yeah when we first got it all i did was push down on rocket cover and the noise stopped. Even when i drove it back from scotland the noise was the same. Just now when the oil changed its gone real bad

Sounds the same as mine when the bottom end went. Did the flush have loads of crap in it? Mine had none but when I took the sump off and a main cap it was clear it was wrecked.
Also make sure your dip stick tube us fully in and re check your oil level.

When I first brought my R the original engine had a bottom end issue, and sounded very very similar, hard to know without stripping it down...

Try using a screwdriver as a stethoscope on the sump when the engines running. It should be pretty clear if that's where the noise is coming from

From what he told me. There was no bits when he flushed the engine. He also said he did a sound check on the bottom and it didnt seem it was the bottom but at the same time he thinks its cams so i dont know if he knows much about this or not. But to be fair to him he has a type r scooby and has been doing work on his own or ao he claims

Regardless of car should be able to tell noise location roughly...
