FPSChris wrote:No no no, not your software! lol

The FTDI drivers really dislike usb3 and windows 10 across a multitude of different cables for vag, bmw & ford. Even the old ones offline install, ones on discs...
Sometimes it works fine on 10 using a usb2, but usb3 and windows 10 x64 has issues.
Copied all over to win7 (an actual copy & paste of the program folders which shouldn't work), worked perfectly fine, same as XP, even using the latest drivers from windows update it worked.

I can only guess that it's certain motherboard chipsets causing the problem.

I'm unfortunate enough to have a brand new chipset with only usb3.1/windows 10 x64 and the cables I use on my win7 machine don't work no matter what I do to set them up. Even in a vm.

I'm more than happy giving it a thourough test on all my computers and VM's though Smile
If it works on my new laptop then it should work on everything.

Ahh I get ya, interesting, quite a selection you are playing with! Cheers, be great to get your results in couple weeks when boxes are ready.

Yes I can see why ftdi drivers compatibility is a bit of a minefield when you have mixed hardware for various car makes. I only have my OBD1 box and a generic ebay OBD2 box at home, and each time I swap the USB over I need to install the correct drivers, stupid but easy easy once you get the hang of it...

At work we have loads of monitoring equipment for various reasons, easy 10 different manufacturers and with a multitude of compatibility issues it used to be a huge pain.

But we have bought many refurb XP laptops from here: http://www.eflexcomputers.com/
We then stick in a brand new battery and away we go. One laptop per manufacturer.
Often better to have separate laptops for separate devices to stop you going insane.
Can't beat XP for compatibility, love it, and there's a leaked hack to free update until 2019! Brilliant!

Cracking site that eflexcomputers, if I couldn't get all my stuff working on usb I would get an xp laptop with dedicated com port

little update...

got all the parts i need as of today to start building more (apart from plastic boxes but they will be here soon).

been tinkering some more:

built an oscilloscope so i can test signals better rather than just trial and error, DIY kit off ebay £15:

So good news my thumb is much better, still hurts to try and pick up some quite lightweight things but soldering is fine.

Got my box working on Windows 8 then upgraded to 10, on a 64bit Acer tablet through USB and Bluetooth. The GTR style dials are possible on the windows software, I believe they are coming one day for the android software. i'll give the developers a shout to see if they have any news...

Sorry for the delay chaps!
Quite simply life gets in the way sometimes...
Quick update is the new batch will be finished this week, watch this space Smile

mreguest

mreguest

So 11 of the new batch were 'finished' last week, and another 10 are 90% complete... I took the 11 out for testing before completing any more and found none of them worked properly Sad

Basically the bluetooth was not registering itself automatically, these things have automatic master and slave settings, master was needed but slave was defaulting... I had no idea this was a thing to consider until now...
Turned out I had to plugin then unplug the USB which would to send the signal to cancel the USB, thus setting the bluetooth to master, weird, anyway luckily I had simply missed 1 solder connection off each circuit, BASTARD!!!!, took them all apart, soldered it, they all work fine! woohoo! finally happy as I have been losing my mind the past week Smile

One other slight dilemma but does not in any way effect the operation of the devices is the pre-moulded plastic 14 pin connectors have had bad quality control.
Some were slightly twisted and some of the pins slightly twisted. I have tried my best to either straighten the plastic, make some cuts in the plastic, straighten some pins and/or pull out some pins. Not ideal but again it does not change the way they work.
The supplier simply said well that's the way they leave the machine sometimes, they are cheap and you can easily stretch/bend them (dick head!).

The black plastic pre-moulds were roughly £1 + post and easy to solder, and the original grey plugs are $5 + post and you need to do each pin separately with a special tool which takes ages and costs more. I chose the black plugs to save time and keep costs down.

As you can see some of the plugs don't look too pretty. But I stand by my statement that this does not effect the workings of the device, if anyone buys one and uses it properly and it develops a fault, I will be happy to take it back to fix it or refund it. I truely believe they are very sturdy.

If anyone wants one then please PM me with the following information and I will Paypal you a proper invoice:

-Real name
-Paypal email address
-Postage Address if different than on your Paypal system

All will be sent by royal mail signed for 1st class, or international signed for, thus all insured with proof of delivery/postage.

£55 delivered UK mainland, £65 delivered most other countries, check with me if unsure.

The bluetooth works perfect on Android. OTG Android USB possible too.
Note bluetooth is ropey on windows (depends on your computer) so the USB is sensible. Also because you can change live parameters with the windows software you want the stability of USB anyway. Windows 98, XP, 7, 8.1 & 10 tested fine.

I will send you the software drivers for all windows operating systems.
I will send you instructions and links to the free android and windows software.

This Racerender works in theory with the video and data you log on the android software - I have not tried it yet but will be when my car is moving, gearbox still in pieces Sad

Looks cool!

Thanks for listening!

Is there any reasing you have 12 clocks on your display and I only had a few? Is it because I'm on mp phone not a tablet or have you purchased the better app?

Bones wrote:Is there any reasing you have 12 clocks on your display and I only had a few?  Is it because I'm on mp phone not a tablet or have you purchased the better app?

Howdo!

The answer is the difference between all the different windows and android software and hardware.

ANDROID
Your only option really is NDSi and customising your own screens, it's rather fiddly because you are using your fingers on a small touch screen (big tablet would be easier) but you can have as many dials as you want, bar graphs etc. you just have to edit your own dash and parameters.

generally looks like combinations of this:
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/nRuc-pPSoeTJXw95-cJdX3jXPK0Q4twd3n1sq0Uw175wV4JGsi55F13Cr_CzXUjn3lU=h310

and this:
https://lh6.ggpht.com/Ze1tg9J8kWyUX-d0Ch_d-moYrOFkDQbs7r_U8Mf3_ndxskjHkAZkBoFDeMPCp6lceCs=h900

WINDOWS

Ecutalk - you can pick as many dials as you want but they auto resize to screen size. You can change colours and it generally looks like this:
https://i.ytimg.com/vi/3-h2d1f2DK4/maxresdefault.jpg

Scantech - I think you only have two options for dial types:
1) http://alflash.com.ua/Scantech/5.gif
2) http://www.ecutalk.com/install/scantech.jpg

Conzult - doesn't have dials, just bar graphs:
https://www.z1motorsports.com/images/monitoringczlt.jpg

Nissandatascan Free version - blue dials you can tweek slightly:
https://i.ytimg.com/vi/D484XhD2Scs/maxresdefault.jpg

Nissandatascan $50 version - GTR dials (this is what you see in my picture above):
https://conceptzperformance.com/Cart/images/3780l.jpg

Unless you want the GTR dials there is no point paying $50 for Nissandatascan. Between ECUtalk, Scantech and Conzult that I sent to you, you can do 95% of the paid for Nissandatascan.

There is a paid for version of Conzult but that is about £150. It doesn't appear to do anything more than the software described above apart from temporary piggy back ecu map emulation. For this money you'd be better placed just buying an Apexi SAFC or Nistune etc as they are perminant piggy back ECU. It is however a direct copy of this original nissan consult machine:
http://www.ttzed.com/images/conzult/consult250.jpg

Hope this helps!
Cheers,
Adam

howdo!

a few people have had confusion installing the windows usb drivers. main problem i think is plugging the box in before turning off the internet.

anyway - what ever the dilemma i've done a video to try and help. in theory if you can get to your 'device manager', then the priciples for install are the same on all versions of windows.

Great news - RaceRender!

https://youtu.be/pvzbHDyMbvQ

Brief drive logging data and video. Using my box, a Sony Z3 Android phone, Nissan Pulsar GTIR and Racerender software on a desktop computer.

Box was used to stream ecu data to the phone via bluetooth and android software. The phone was attached to the windscreen using a cheap phone mount (hence it is shaky), and was set to record video and data simultaneously.

Then the racerender software combines the data log and video file together afterwards on a computer.

Everything is fully customisable with amazing possibilities. The free race render software is limited to 3 minute video and has a fixed racerender logo top right.

However, the free software has massive potential. You can pick and choose from lots of different template designs. Change every detail of speedo, track map, rpm, GPS location, etc, put the parameters anywhere on the screen, make them more/less transparent, as you can see I dumped a Nissanthology icon at the bottom.

I might pop out another day to lap a big roundabout late at night and see how the lap counter/timer works Smile
