We have inspected the GT2860 sent to us for repair. We have found the turbine wheel has been damaged by a foreign object on the inducer blades. The turbine exducer blades have been damaged by coming into contact with the turbine housing. The compressor wheel exducer damage was caused by the turbine end bearing cage failing. The bearing cage failing would have been caused by either the imbalance or the turbo from the damage stated above or the cage may have melted due to overheating. We would highly recommend our metal cage conversion to replace the standard plastic ones.

A new core and turbine housing are required, we will refit your compressor cover and actuator £624.73+vat
Metal cage upgrade £130.00+vat
Please let me know how you would like to proceed.

your gonna have to kick up a row with them.

i did with essex turbos a year or so back as had the same response when i knew there was nothing wrong with the car.
i went down there and said im not leaving untill they agree to repair the hash up of a turbo they supplied me with....anyway they agreed, got it back and fitted it and it lasted a week untill the thing blew up again so gave it up as a bad job in the finish and bought another new one.
robbing bastads all these turbo places

Owen developments.its the metal upgrade cage part i laughed at why not when they sold me it did they not offer it as a option.i always thought rollerbearing turbo's always had plastic surrounds end of. It was a 370 deg bearing. What causes it to overheat ? Was not like it was on a long run or out. I know when it was mapped you get to a point where more boost gives no more bhp it just heats the turbo. So your car is in mappers hands

I deal with Owens, and they are a good bunch of lads to me.

Bearings overheat and fail from lack of oil and debris damage simple as, Owens do the metal cage conversion as an extra charge for turbos that are going to be pushed very hard same as the heat shield conversions for the turbine bearings etc, why garret use plastic bearing cages god only knows. My last turbo failed from a bit of paint blocking the restrictor in the turbo and did the same as yours, when bb turbos are fitted you should fit a filter to the oil supply......but hardly any one does and hence they fail

This is the bitter pill to swallow, garrett turbos fail and to fight the warenty is futile because you cannot prove that failure was the suppliers fault, no other turbo company will produce a report saying the turbo supplied was faulty as they will shaft themselves too.

So did you have a proper (not eBay) inline oil filter fitted?

Totally agree just thought they might offer the upgrade from day one.Am i wrong when i say 370 everyone says that but 370 is the heat rating not the rotation
