Sold my flat the other month and was looking to buy again next year.
But instead of just keeping funds in the bank at crap rates I was looking into buying a car upto £15k to invest in.

I have been looking closely at the Subaru Impreza P1's.
Could pick one up for about £12k.
They only made 1000 of them.
I think this could be a rising future classic, maybe even doubling its price in 5 years.

Any thoughts or other cars to consider?

Not everyone's cup of tea if I had the cash and storage I would buy one of the last mini coopers with the 4 spots wide wheels before they brought the new shape out . Maybe not 2 year but these will only ever rise in my opinion

You only thinking about mint examples you can tuck away or possibly something that needs some TLC and then tuck away to rise in value ?
I keep my eye on eBay just for fun - i use the word 'barn find' in the search seems to be a phrase people put on the end of old cars that obviously weren't found in a barn but they associate this with old cars.
Saw this R5-GTT yesterday:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Renault-5-GT-Turbo-1-4-rare-barn-find-hot-hatch-gti-gordini-sport-super-la-car-/332000128981?hash=item4d4cbfefd5:g:HmoAAOSwPCVYAQNi

Description a bit questionable but an ok price considering how rare they are !

That project one is a shed and if I hadn't seen the one for £3995 up for sale for £1795 I'd be tempted to go look at it . But the fact all he's done is buy it and put £2200 onto the price turns me straight off

Been chatting on the p1 owners club, just seems like to try and find a good example is very hard as well.

I have opened my criteria now to the following.

R32 Gtr
R33 Gtr
P1 impreza
Impreza sti type r v6
Evo 6
Gti-r

I have a different view as your targeting the cars that you know are rising rather than take a punt on stuff that could rise in near future yet you can still buy relatively cheap today, these are long term investments which are a bit of a gamble at same time!

Some of the below is what i would be looking at but must be in great condition with good mileage and history and no modifications:

!. Any Tvr no longer produced (in 5 years mine has doubled in value) and will continue to rise as others either burn or are crashed.

2. Focus Rs could be a good long term punt

3. Fiat 20v turbo

4. Honda civic ek9 Jordan type R

5. Alfa Romeo Alfasud cloverleaf Alfetta

All these cars can be sought for a good to fair price and could reward you hansomely in future if looked after well.

Other known marques such as R32s etc etc everyones after already so prices are hiked up even further.......these could be false prices and at some point you could possibly end up losing a lot of money depending on what purchase price is so be careful there.

Yes you cold be possibly right Bob.
I was talking on the P1 owners club and a lot of the ones for over £13k are traders.
The prices vary from 12k to a whopping £24k right now.
2 years ago you could get them for 7-11k.
But I still think these P1's will rise even further.
1000 limited production run with possibly only 650 left worldwide.
I am seriously being tempted.
I told those on the P1 forum my budget, had at least 3 members send me info on their cars which do look lovely.
Maybe they are also trying to jump in on the price hike.
But I seriously think they will go up, especially as they are UK cars and Prodrive specials.
I have alo been reading up on the engine issues they have, being replaced etc...
Still not being put off though if I can find a good one.

However someone has offered me a lovely one with forged internals, running standard boost, full documented history.
They really do look after their cars.

Ae86 now there worth money. I know someone who just imported an ae85 that there selling not sure how much but not sure it's as desireable as an ae86.
Nova's are hitting good money now and i had loads of them
Astra gte if you can find a decent one cheap or a manta exclusive but abit rare now. Mates got a series 1 that needs a resto that is actually in a barn but just keeping it.
Could, if you can ride invest in a classic british bike and never lose money.

Tbh  anything that is top spec and the performance model will be with good money in the future

All the audi RS and S models  audi TT is defo gonna be worth good money
Any ford RS or ST
Civic Typre R's etc
Any of the vauxhall VXR range
The current fleet of Nismo models from nissan
And any Mitsubishi Evo   Especially Tommi makinen  and RS models

All you've got to do is look at the cars that were everywhere 10 - 15  years ago and see what they are starting to make
Carlton Gsi   , Astra gte / gsi  , Novas ,  Escort rs and Xr3's , sierra cozzys , Vw golfs GTI'S ,    Toyota corrola gti ,

Christ when i was looking at selling my pulsar 4 years ago i was looking at about £3000 if i was looking to sell now i'd be looking at nearly double figures

I know its crazy how much older cars have gone up in price but it seems everyones jumped on the band wagon and labelled everything as classic and whacked the prices up ....

I would say the Audi RS6 are a good deal, you can get an 04 from about 6 grand, obviously you would want to spend more but for a 4.2 twin turbo 450bhp vehicle with the RS badge that a hell of a steal. Look at how the e46 M3 dropped to under 5 grand and now look at them!
