Looking good man Smile what sthe rubber bit accross the front slam pan for ?

I had to remove the slam panel to fit the intercooler as it wouldnt fit with it in place. So I made a new piece (its metal just looks that way in the pic) to tidy it up a bit and hide the loom until I make a new one for when it gets painted.

Thanks guys. The spec is as follows..

Piper 278 deg cams with vernier pulleys
ARP head studs
ARP main studs
ARP rod bolts
ACL race series main/thrust bearings
ACL race series big end bearings
Wossner pistons
Fully ballanced bottom end
GT2871R turbo
Custom exhaust manifold
TiAL MV-S waste gate
Custom elbow/down pipe
Mongoose exhaust
AP racing clutch
HKS BOV
Adjustable FPR
Walbro fuel pump
PACE RS 500 intercooler (modified to fit)
Alloy cosworth radiator (modified to fit)
Nitrous Oxide kit (100bhp)

I originally built it to be drivable and pull hard and spool fast from bends etc and not for drag times. Put the nitrous on just in case you meet something fast. As I have had the car for 15 years now a lot of the mods were done when kits for it were readily available.

My coilovers have had it so need to invest in a new set and also upgrade the brakes as they are pants. Also need to fit a new management system and run it at around 380bhp (without nitrous). Very Happy

Are any of you guys running BC coilovers? If so how are you getting on with them?

Great specs mate, cant wait to hear more about your car.

I have bc's on my R and used them for 3 years on my daily driver which was a bmw e36. Really happy with them and no complaints, I think they are a great coilover for the price.

In regards to the nitrous Laughing

Haha cheers mate. Laughing
Brilliant, that clears that up. I will get a set of those then. I was thinking about going for the softer spring rate as my last set are too hard and used to handle better with the std shocks. What spring rates are you running and how is it in the road? Pot holes everywhere near me. Sad

I haven't actually driven my car with the standard BC spring rates for the R, but some of the other lads here will be able to comment that you far better off ordering them with softer rates. I know there was a thread on it here, but I remember bob (GTI-R US) recommending the best spring rate to me.

Interesting setup definately different to what I have seen before! Any reason for the intercooler setup and air filter location or is that a reult of using that intercool and manifold?

The turbo is positioned over the top of the gearbox now, so just mounted the intake there so I could use it until a new cold air intake box was made (which I never got round to Embarassed ). The intercooler was one of the first mods that was done to it in about 2003 and at the time intercooler kits were a lot of money so decided to make my own up. No real reason for that set up other than cost and intercooler core size. So just going to try finish off (and tidy up) what I started now as I miss driving it. Its not a finished artical just where I had got to before I left it for a while. Also not happy with some of the choices I made, so probably change a few things.

BC are ok for price you pay.
4KGmm (F) 3KGmm (R) is not bad for road
plus points with them is proper separate height adjustment so you can set spring preload & corner weights correctly.
Biggest problem with them for fast B road use is strut piston travel is very short so loose a lot of grip on bumpy poor surfaces.
If BC would build custom struts with almost double piston travel range & not dumped too low when fitted they would be way better on road . Custom bilstein 36mm piston inserts are very good but over twice price of BC. Decent set of old Ohlins good too if can find some .

Brilliant. Thats some good information Very Happy . I will have a look and see what I can find. Thank you. Im thinking about using it mainly as a weekend and track day car. But due to budget probably go for the BC's.
