Hi,

So before I start moaning to the company who sold me the nrp rings that they don't meet the Nissan spec, can someone confirm if this is a std piston and not an over size one:

2 is the grade, 54C engine type but what is the 05? I'm hoping not 0.5mm oversize, might explain the ring gap if it is Shocked

I measured my bored today again and they came out at 86.05 to 86.06 outside of the range in manual but within the limit.

I've not got a decent mic big enough to measure the Pistons.

Gaz

Can't tell you what 05 represents, would like know myself now :-)
Looks a standard 86mm grade 2 to me.
OEM pistons only do a 0.2mm oversize & only one I ever seen with oem nissan oversize was stamped 75F as uses the A201075F76 piston, there is a 54C specific oversize part number but I never seen/used one (always use CP) & most people ordering oem pistons generally end up with the alternative 75F ones . do your piston grades match the stamped cylinder grades on the block head face or have number markings been lost from skimming .
My guess from your remarks so far is rings are not as precision as should be, made worse by so bore wear but still outside of oem tolerance for new but within extreme wear limit .
PITA but oem ring set or another brand should get the tolerances better .

Yeah number 2's on the block, I did get my mate to check in work for a 4" mic, but didnt have any. He did bring me a digi vernier better than the one I have, not the best tool to measure a piston with but did get some consistant results after a while of trying. I ended up with a consistant 3.3855" which falls into Grade 2.

I contacted the seller on ebay, and ended up having a bizarre conversation via email. From telling me they arent suitable for a GTi-R and it was my fault for ordering them, corrected him by sending a photo of the purchase were the listing states N14 sunny SR20DET Laughing but finally after sending lots of spec info about sr20de(t) engine we got somewhere, so finally getting a refund for them, and yesterday I bought some Nissan Rings hopefully all should measure correctly, bit more expensive than other brands!

Just waiting on the type 1 big end bearings then rebuild underway, christ knows when it will start up though Laughing

standard rings 1203353J00 cover load of applications. Some years back I used riken sets on 2 builds with standard honed bore & even with honing they still came well in tolerance. worth spending the little extra to get things right/how you want them.
good on getting refund too thumbsup

Hi,
Did you solve your gap issue by installing OEM Nissan rings?
I have the same bore as you mentioned (86.05mm) and with nrp rings I have around 0.55-0.60mm gap.
Thanks!

Hi,

Yeah new oem rings solved my problem, even my original rings I took off had a gap clearance within spec!
