As my last engine died from detonation i would prefer if my new engine doesn't do that. Ive bought my self a AEM wide band O2 kit, my question is where is the best place to fit the wide band sensor, it better near the decat or elbow? If anyone has got one fitted can you post a picture up of the sensor fitted.

My second question is regarding ignition timing. I am looking at getting my self a timing gun to set my ignition timing. What is the factory setting for timing. Is the timing just adjusted by rotating the distributor FWD or BACK.

Thanks

Aem recommends 18 inches from the turbo, that should be before the decat, just check that though.

Most people fit them near the flexi If its a goose. To close to turbo damages them. Mount the boss at a angle to stop conden sitting in sensor and damaging it. Timing is 18-20 deg I think but you need to unplug tps. And yes it can be advanced or retarded via dizzy. But are you not the one getting a build done ? Set chain on build. What condition is your pully as some crack and markings can be hard to see. You need to mark the right line on the crank pully with paint pen or similar so easily seen when you use timing gun

How would you get away with it if you are running a front exit exhaust?

I've ordered one, I'm going to mount it right next to the silencer (as far from the turbo as possible)

Thanks for this johnny, no im not getting a build done. i bought a second hand sr20 from bob, it will be put on the rollers at torque of the south but would like to be double safe by having the wideband and also checking my ignition timing prior.

Have you seen these? If your ecu does not have closed loop knock it might save you another engine.

Around the 120£ mark

I get my gear from these guys as I don't have to pay GST and freight is cheaper.

My point of mount is just before the box weld, depends on the length of box though, I have a modded bike can. Looks to be around 18/20" from the turbo

And how long have you been running it that close to the turbo? Any problems? Mines just come so would like to know if mounting it so close has caused any issues

Joe
We will check afr's on Dyno when you bring car down, ours is live which runs alongside Dyno software.
We will also check/adjust timing for you as will be listening for any det through our knock detection equipment
Sometimes it's best to pull out a couple degrees at base which then gives you a safety margin when upping the boost or should you get any dodgy or lower octane fuel in there so wouldn't worry about it too much although deffo worth fitting one so you can monitor afr's yourself so if it ever runs really lean you know you have an issue and can resolve it before it causes you a real big problem.

As Johnny said, as long as not right on top of turbo and somewhere back around 18" or more it will be fine
