I have been searching for one of these for a while as a part of my rebuild from shell up.

Lower front bar/tube - Needed? Image11

But I've heard from a few people now who run bigger rads and coolers etc is that it's not really even needed? I know it has a very small little engine stabiliser mount on it but I imagine with some good condition engine mounts it barely does anything...

Just asking advise on whether I can just forget it really and not bother as I honestly don't think it's needed.

Thanks guys

I would think it helps strengthen up the front end also aswell as being a jacking point if only everyone else took that view saving all those crushed sills and bashed box sections ...

I prefer using one but as above many people get by without running it Smile

That bar is the BEST jacking point at the front and as said, saves the sills and rail's from getting crushed.

Definitely best place for getting the front jacked up.
Also people spend a lot of money on upper and lower strut braces to stiffen up the front so I can't think why you'd consider leaving this bar off when it's probably there to stiffen up the front, as well as support the engine ...

I have ran with and without not noticed the difference but I prefer to run with. Jacking point is a bonus but more important as mentioned it braces the front end up. Now on a standard car drove on the roads probably won't matter as these cars were built to rally so certain areas over engineered for a road car but up the power or as parts wear over the years  and driving the car hard considering that so much weight is up front on these cars I would run it a 100% also as mentioned a lot of people's cars I see the mounts worn so the stabiliser is working hard to absorb movement back and forth. Running without gives movement and I am 90% sure it contributed to gear box failure on a car I was fixing. The forge front mount pipe is awkward so I cut a section out the bar turned the cut section upside down and got it welded back in so no loss of strength. Also as said the stabiliser will help stop a turbo or bigger turbo hitting the rad or uprated rad as it moves under acceleration or braking conditions

I'd keep it for strength as these are big old engines and anything to support and tighten the front end is a good thing. I didn't think about jacking on it but i sometimes jack up the front behind the front sill with wood.
