Did this car earlier this summer and been meaning to try upload some pics of the partial restoration we did.
Very nice car which had not long been imported by someone else but was in need of a good makeover as was not so clever on closer inspection. We had a budget to work on so was not a complete restore job but the look on his face was a picture when he came down to collect her and drove it back to the southwest.
Anyway thought I would post a few pics for all you Gti-r lovers, someone may even recognise her!
Heres when car came in earlier this year
Completely stripped underside and all arches back to bare metal, painstaking horrible job
rear subframe all stripped & refreshed
Gearbox stripped and rebuilt as was sticking in reverse and dodgy 3rd 4th hub synchro
Engine rebuilt
brake calipers overhauled and painted with high temp stuff
All 4 arches were stripped, bad metal replaced and painted with red oxide primer, Aj4 top coat then lacquered (hate underseal as just retains moisture in metal)
Same goes for engine bay and complete underside of car, chassis rail on one side was bad as had been jacked up on it in past and had gone rotten around arb mount, so cut it out completely (around 60cm) and made a new box section up which we welded in.
Once we had finished all the required work the engine was partially run in on our Dyno and fuelling checked so we new it was all running safe, the guy only wanted stock power as virtually everything on the car is stock even down to exhaust system which was as good as new, it made 224bhp which is about bang on at stock boost.
Customer then collected car where its going off to his painters down in Bristol area to have all the top part taken back to bare metal then a full paint in Aj4 red which may well be done by now I guess.
