I need to buy myself a trolley jack.
I bought a 2 tonne one a few years back but it was wank! It was small and only cost about £30
Im currently using my brothers trolley jack. But want my own.
Don't really want to spend any more than £60/£70 for one tho.
Want one thats quite flat and long and wide with a big plate on it (jacking point)
Anyone know any decent ones for that kind of money?

Would this be any good?
http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=400759784981&alt=web
Thanks.

Has anyone bought one of these and is the jack wank?
For £40 it looks a good buy for what you get. But the jack looks cack!

Yeh that halfords jack is indeed wank.
I like ones more like first link but with two size lift plates (one big one small) & wider axle with decent size wheels on front as far more stable/safe lifting on rougher ground .
Sometimes motorfactors have good deals on this sort of stuff so may be worth ringing a couple as "stu-motorworx" & see what they got, machinemart may be worth a look.
Most of this stuff tends be same base product but different color & sticker so expect you can find some decent priced quite good stuff on eBay if have good hunt

you'll probably find same jacks as machinemart but different colour sticker or at least same spec on ebay for £70 region I expect.
Half decent 2.5 tonne jack should outlast me and you for home use .

not a huge amount on ebay for that price surprisingly .
spotted one linked below which on paper looks good for price, height range min & max good for size, nice wide cast wheels on front. would of liked option of second bigger saddle pad but besides that it looks good value perhaps .

I would never buy anything off sgs engineering there customer service is wank my daughter bought a 3 ton jack off them wich started pissing oil out of one of the cylinders they sent her out the part wich was fitted it still leaked after speaking to them arranged a courier to pick it up wich they tried to charge 40quid said they had tested it and it wasnt leaking so as there is no fault to get it back it will cost 40quid courier charge again they said there jacks are not covered for frequent use so if they break they cannot guarantee them .... surely if thats the case they should state this on the sale page ....

you got lucky stu, they put that jack price up to 69.99 today :-O
If half decent 49.99 inc home delivery was stealing cheap, most comparable spec stuff is 70 to 120 £ range from what I saw from looking yesterday.

You get what you pay for imo. In work we have this old tatty jack can't remember the make of it but it's built very well it's probable 2-3 time the size of a camparable halfords one. I've been working at my place for 8 years and the jack has never failed only needing a top up once in a while.

Be careful of the cheap low profile ones we've had 2 very nice looking sealey low profile jacks very similar to this one that the pump unit has failed. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sealey-RJA1550-Trolley-Jack-1-5tonne-Low-Entry-Aluminium-Rocket-Lift-/391075975651?hash=item5b0df1d1e3

Not so bad if it's still under warranty but if not you might as well throw it away.

trouble with sealey is they outsource everything & most of it is cheap shit with a sealey sticker & sealey high price, lot of their stuff is same source as likes of silverline & toolzone. their budget label siegen pushes even cheaper manufactured lines
Steel jack in the ebay link don't look too bad in construction from what see in pics, always bit of gamble but at price stu paid I reckon it could be a bargain & if quality of ram & handle gearing match rest it should be fine for home use & probably more .
