Today I have been a busy boy and I've finally got around to replacing my front calipers, disks and pads.

Right so to start with you have to obviously jack the front of the car up and place on axle stands.

Then it's time to remove the wheels and start unbolting the calipers and carriers from the hub. On mine the calipers were held on with two 17mm headed bolts and the sliding pins were two 14mm bolts. Undo the sliding bolts and remove, the calipers should now come away from the carrier. Secure the caliper up out the way for the meantime, I just cable tied it to the spring. Now undo the two 17mm bolts holding the carrier onto the hub. You should be left with this.

Firstly you'll need something to space the disks away from the hub 4mm if your using clio 172/182 disks like me. I just used some washers in the end but at some point I will get something made up that's a bit better. The next thing you need to do is to open up the two holes in the hub for mounting the caliper as they don't quite line up.

You can see the bottom hole is now larger than the top one.

Now you should be able to put your disk on but if you have a splash guard like mine did then you'll need to modify it to accept the larger disk like this.

You can see I have taken the corners off both top and bottom and also around the lip that folds towards the disk I cut slits then folded them out away from the disk to create enough clearance.

You should now be able to mount your disk.

The rest is just a reversal of what you did to remove the old ones. So now you mount the carrier like so.

Insert your pads into the carrier and apply copper grease to the backing pads. I also applied silicone grease to the sliding pins to help keep the moving freely in the caliper, then installed the caliper. Now you can make a start on the otherside.

Connect up your hoses I just used the standard hoses but at some point i'll upgrade them to braided. Now your ready to bleed your brakes, make sure all your bolt are done up correctly put the wheels back on and take your car back off the axle stands.

Once your done test your brakes double check everything is done up tight and give yourself a pat on the back.

DON'T use washers
it really bad way of doing it,
impact from wheel to hub transfers through washers/discs & with tiny contact areas & hollow areas behind disc mount face causes brake face crack up easily. Also likely warp discs more/have disc run-out issues thus brake knock-off which not great .
seen this bodge fail & it not pleasant at speed as can loose a wheel .
Washers ok for mock run but final wants proper spacers.
Insurance will dump you & police will screw you too if in an accident & stumble on that ...
easy way out is machine spacers from old original disc faces as you won't want them any more.

Thanks again B Smile
I have found some wheel spacers that only need 23.5mm milling off them. So will go for them Smile
