Hi,

Has anyone had any experience with these:

http://www.meisterr.co.uk/vehicles/nissan/pulsar-gti-r-rnn14/

Not sure if there good or not, I was looking into ordering some towards end of year but there out of stock, emailed the company and they replied tonight;

"For the moment we have discontinued the GTiR coilovers.
There just aren't much demand for them.

However, if there are interests from the owners (group or forum), we are more than happy to put them back on limited production
"

I wouldn't bother with Meister R as they nothing special & testing/development was as lacking as all of the cheaper coilover kits.
BC is ok for cheap price & sensible spring rates but the stroke travel is 5hite .

BC are alright for the price, certainly not the best though.

Someone had posted a link to them ages ago, few years ago now I think.. Did a bit of research back then and they seemed really good, other manufacture owners clubs gave positive feedback and rate them better to BC and D2. Ive never drove a car with any of these setups so couldnt comment personally. Im after just a road setup but possibly the occasional track day.

I bought a set off bob, I can't fault them, and from what use iv had from them they seem great, quality peice of kit with plenty of adjustment and a good price, I'd recommend them.

They okay, I had set of BC for a while on softer spring rates to improve handling for road, they seem okay till you get something better, my bilstein inserts are night & day in comparison.
I have driven & worked on most of the low cost coilovers on various cars & they all the same 5hit with just minor differences. BC not bad on the R but strut stroke & valving is far from good for real fast B road use.

Well that's a hard call seeing as you can specify your own strut lengths (shorter / longer) as well as spring rates all for no extra cost,
Find me another set of coilovers at the silly price we do them at where you get that kind of custom specification plus backed up with a proper years manufacturers warranty scratch

I've driven 2 cars with meister coilovers and there fine but out of the two I know which I would choose and believe me I'm not saying that because we're agents for them, at price we sell them for I make next to nothing on them so don't care whether they sell or not
so no sales gimmicks here on my part just want to make that clear

For the money they cost they knock a lot more expensive makes clean out the ring that is the fact of the matter

They no where close to ohlins or bilstein.
For the money you do them at they not bad for track but for road use they awful & don't last long before need rebuilding hence why I went bilstein inserts.
adjustment is good & on smoother surfaces they work ok but real roads and a spirited drive they loose you a load of grip.

^ It a conversion based on B6 inserts, inserts are around £150-£200 range & need valving modded plus decent springs. Idea with these is only lower 20 to 35mm max & keep good strut stroke to improve grip.

Never said they were as good as bilsteins, ohlins, proflex or any other leading brand make
its like me trying to compare a set of Alcon brakes to a set of Wilwoods just a ridiculous assumption to make

as for track and road use they are not useless infact far from it as im sure many will agree who have bought them in the past. Ive driven a fair few over the years with bc struts and if you get the spring rates etc right when ordering them then youll have no problems
Also weve been dealing with these for best part of 3 years now and so far not one return through leaking or faulty manufacture which to me says in itself its a well made product

but fair do's if monies no object then just go out and buy the best but not every ones privileged enough to do that

What would you guys say is the best for a road / track car with maybe a track bias at around a 1k budget?

I am miles of this but was considering an xyz coilover set up or maybe bc rm series?

the thing is rich there is no happy medium here as it depends upon how focused you want to make the car and how focused you are as a driver at getting the fastest time possible in your car on circuit.

A fast road set up will never truly perform on track if your pushing near the edge of the cars limits 'It will underperform'
and visa versa for a car on fast country lanes with pot holes and uneven surfaces that's setup for smooth high speed cornering on a race track

i know what i would go for but that doesn't necessarily mean they will work the same for you or another driver due to varying driving styles and so forth

I don't think they do really, for low price range Taiwan coilovers they about the best & at your price even better but this budget range coilover is not a good match to the GTiRs handling needs.
Throw in people wanting versatility for road & track use then it really hard to get perfect compromise & individual driving styles & regional road surfaces make it very hit & miss on what will be best option .
Suspension is one area that little more money & thought can be hugely beneficial.

Think Ive opened a can of worms here Very Happy

Out of interest how many makes are available for the R now? I did have Nismo struts on it when I bought it 11 years ago, when I stripped it the other year they were shot, and one wasnt even Nismo, I forgot it failed an MOT, strut was leaking, Bob sent me a standard one to get it through MOT, but I kinda binned the Nismo one, oops. I like the idea of coilovers, but dont want to break the bank as the rebuild is going to start costing a lot.

I will probably be opening another but how many standard or uprated spring and shock set ups are availible without going custom. Not many to my knowledge stuff like spax is 70/40 so abit low at front

As you said I know recently people have been loolong at inserts etc but I havent actually heard anyone in the UK say yes buy this and get so and so to do this and you will have a set for xyz and they are miles better than BC, D2, Tein etc etc. For the usual its a difficult task to get this info and what needs doing so unfortunately we dont have that many options.

Never really was a lot of good european options for the R.
Jap KYB GAB & Ohlins was good stuff, Ohlins was about £1600 for the strut version working from old online catalogues.
KYB still show in some jap part suppliers so might still be able get a full set but likely cost £1,000 (too busy to check exact price at mo)
Loads of springs were available but most a poor match for car & standard struts & only likes of whiteline being particularly well thought out.
Whiteline used Koni inserts but it was just the GTi inserts nothing specific/custom.
Bilstein B6HD inserts should be easy in UK as they get used a lot in budget motorsport as that good, so a lot of motorsport suspension shops can work on these inserts & pricing is not ridiculous.
