Evening,

Just got my konis through, inserts in standard strut bodies (thanks bob!), going to just whack them on this car then refurbish them properly for the red car when the time comes but until then I need 4 new gaiters/boots for them, what are people using these days? I have heard things about MX bike gaiters? Going to measure up tomorrow morning but if anyone has any links?

Same again with rubber spring seats? Think I will pinch the good ones of my old struts but if there is a source for them I would love to know, or does Nissan still do them?

Also one shock seems to have the remains of a foamy bump stop, although it may just be a strange type of gaiter, I'm not sure I have ever seen bump stops on gtir shocks, what's the verdict?

Cheers,
G

Gtirchris

All dampers should have a bumpstop mate, iirc a mate of mine used some powerflex gaitors for his rear dampers and I think they came with bumpstops, was a while ago though.

KYB kit for £10 > http://www.bestpartstore.co.uk/828234 (2 sets '4 boots/4 stops' & shipping £27.96)

KYB kits are cheap from motorfactors though , bump & boot less than £7.50 a side generally.
Monroe just do boots & you can get them for about £5 each
Spring seat rubbers would be nissan or good used.

^ Yeh same kit but not same price, you get 2 kits (1 kit does 2 struts) for same price as 1 from feebay.
motorfactors should be around £12 to £16 a kit pending on your luck/account grade.
I use these KYB kits on my rebuilt struts and they good. Used monroe boots too but found kyb better quality.

You got more than 1 factors !?
You can buy 2 kits for your front/rears posted to your door from my link for that money.

Not anymore, apart from euro car parts which I try not to use, that one usually pretty good but they are the one true factors left in town so have a bit of a monopoly now I suppose.

Have ordered 2 sets from the link. I see there is a rear specific set at ~£18, wonder what the difference is.

I use fronts on rears as the standard sunny rear shocks are smaller diameter tubes than the R which has 50mm tubes front & rear so standard n14 rear stuff are not best suited.

That explains it then. Looking forward to getting these shocks on.

Sometimes its worth going to your factors and asking best price just say am not been funny but i can get online at price can you get near it. I hate big chains supermarkets etc killed dairy farms for one i would rather pay more for a pint of milk not untill you work or see how little they pay farmers. The country and governments a joke. But thats a different thread rant over

^ I agree, I prefer supporting smaller local companies & generally without feebay, paypal & P&P they should be able get price match or be close enough to be happy.
When big difference sometimes you have to do it for the saving.

Totally agree there its just once they go there gone. My one is butchers. Again super market meat compaired to local farm market. The taste difference is massive but price is king

UK problems is not so much the big supermarkets but more the red tape & costs for small businesses just eat too much of the mark-up.
Here in thailand food markets are still king & supermarkets can't undercut them purely as the market is so cheap on running costs & we have minimal red tape & H&S bu115hit.
Really is a shame when loose all the small bakeries, butchers, cafes etc & one of the reasons why UK in such a mess as it such a PITA in paperwork & expense to start/maintain a small business.

Mr B, having now measured 3 sets of standard strut bodies, the rears are approx 50mm OD and the fronts are 45mm OD and as such take a inserts of 45mm and 40mm, with piston sizes of approx 22mm and 20mm respectively.

A bump stop for a 20mm piston should squeeze onto a 22mm piston however I'll find out on Thursday when they arrive.
