Hi I was wondering if I could run a half size radiator and would it give enough cooling.

Thanks

You might get away with half size but double thickness, depends on power and use. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it though.

If you do I would also consider a waterless coolant.

yeah not really recommended especially if you venture on the track with her

cooling is key with these cars if you want them to last Wink

It is possible but only really advisable if doing something special that must require it that short & you would be best keeping it closer to 2/3rds original length & good thickness.

What about if I install a oil cooler do you guys think it will help with cooling

That won't make any difference to running a small rad
Oil cooler helps keep oil temps down and rad obviously water temps
But if water temps rise then this will have an adverse affect on oil temps also as the block and head temp will be higher then transfer the heat into the oil galleries

Not a good idea running a half radiator for track work. Do u want to run a half radiator to clear turbo, wastegate etc? What's the reason?

I'm changing my intercooler. I'm gonna have the inlet and outlet on the same side so I can run less pipe and a bit more space under the bonnet.

Argh I see. I'm running a same side intercooler and a full radiator. Just need to do some cutting and a tight bend off the top intercooler outlet to the turbo.

if your running the ic pipes on one side try moving the mounting brackets over to one side a little for the rad
or do as I did and fit the rad on top of the front main cross member so it seats under the top slam panel
you can run a smaller rad but ideally you then need it thicker so you do not lose the volume of coolant in the system

How'd the set go bob? I have to admit I never really looked into any pros/ cons of same side intercoolers. I just wanted to avoid the intercooler pipe going over the rocker cover like you see many high mount R setups done.

Actually I don't think I've ever seen a same side intercooler on a gtir before Very Happy

Thanks for the advice. I can't wait to start making the pipes up
