Nope gonna stick my neck out with this one and deffo sounds like a bigend
From memory Sam had a bit of trouble with crank locking up when he built it and if that's the case the mains would have worn thus boogie ring up the pump then bigends will cop it

Sincerely hope I'm wrong for his sake

Thing is Sam sometimes a bigend knock does sound as though it's coming from the top.
Run it up and lay underneath and stick a screwdriver on the sump with the handle to your ear then get your old man to feather the throttle on and off between 2-3.5k rpm and you will hear it distinct machine gun type rattle

The reason you may not be getting oil to the top could be a knackered pump especially if debris has been picked up from mains.
But before doing any more check that the sump pans not been dented in any way as this will cause oil pick up troubles big time, if it has remove the sump, check for metal debris in the oil and also remove and clean the oil strainer to make sure it's not blocked in any way

will do tomos if i get time as i was going on my own tomos as my dad is busy so might not bother going if he cant go the pan is defo not dented i tend to look at that quite often as its already happened once before .. and a knakerd pump hope not only been on the car a year lol plus my oil pressure is good if that means anything ..

Nope oil pressure really doesn't mean a lot as I've seen big ends that bad where there almost putting rod through the block but still have good oil pressure

As said really do hope you prove me wrong here Sam but if not then the only concelation is the fact that your gonna have to remove the lump anyway so can be sorted before you replace it

If you get stuck at all then give me a bell and il try put you on the right track over the phone as you don't wanna get it wrong this time round

Oh my Buddha that don't look good :-/
Going be a complete strip down to clean all that swarf out & check it not causing other issues .
Sloppy machine shops & inexperienced assembly leaves too many possible mistakes ... hopefully you have the enthusiasm to put this right & I hope you have better machinist & luck ...

I guessed as much Sam I hate to say
As said earlier your mains clearances were obviously not correct if the engine had tight spots
This will have destroyed the crank no doubt so you'll need to source another and there not cheap, il have a look to see if I have one that will take a .25 grind that I can do you cheap not sure if I have one though.

When you assemble it again (assuming you do) this time il give you an exact description of what to do, the crank simply has to be spot on or it won't last 5 minutes as you've discovered already.

Also as mr b has pointed out you will need to completely dis-assemble that block, if the main bearings have spun the block is scrap but you won't know till you pull the crank out
Oil pump will now be scrap
Any spun shells on rods will render them as scrap plus as said the engine oil ways will need thoroughly cleaning and you'll need to also check cams and rockers because if they have been starved of oil they could also be scrap
So all in all not a good scenario really

Hate to say it but it would be cheaper for you to buy another secondhand engine

Ooh yes it's bye bye to that crank
Just keep your fingers crossed and hope that none of the mains have spun

If it gets too much Sam just chuck the thing in the garage and walk away from it until your in the right frame of mind to repair it again.
Fair play to you for cracking on with it though, many would have gave up and thrown the towel in by now so thumbsup

bob once i have got the two shells out and find out the crank is nakerd its going to be a new engine i reckon as i dont feel like stripping it again and paying a french machinest top wage for something that is much cheaper in england the price of parts and labour at a machinest over here most proberly pays a secondhand engine without the turbo and other bits from england / you..
