Changing tachometer

It would appear that my tacho is suffering from crazy needle syndrome.

Normally I would just change the whole dial unit for one of my spares but these are uk dials (with the clock!) and I would like to keep them.

So has anyone changed the tacho motor and have any tips for doing so? I would like to avoid breaking them. Any other areas to check that might be causing the problem? They worked fine in my last car I had them in but that was 5 years ago..

Some have had good results with contact spray on connectors & tiny bit of WD40 on the arms.
Never stripped a GTiR one so i'm not much help.
If you got a crappy import one spare you could use it as a test in good stripdown procedure.
Would indeed be shame ruin the uk style clocks as quite nice to have.
Someone on here added a digital clock to the JDM instruments so they may have some experience & tips on stripping the assembly.

I fitted the digital clocks into jdm gauges, easily done.

Usually when the rev counter does that it's down to a bad earth

My mate who is a bit of a whizz with electronics said it would be a bad earth tonight. A dry solder joint or something?

Might get them out over the weekend for a look.
