Car looks great mate. If a tractor battery don't start it you really have got a problem Laughing  Thought that tractor was a New Holland at first but now I'm thinking Valtra?

well finally after 2 1/2 years the car burst into life, along with 3 petrol leaks one being on the side of the tank Mad not fun when theres a diesel heater facing you Shocked Ive checked the timing but car still sounds rough very much like a proper rally car so not sure if the timings 100% but its getting smoother everytime i start her up, and she fires up instantly so cant far out.

Do have a few things not working 100% if anyone can shed some light on the following:

Wipers work but stop as soon as you flick them off, they dont finish there cycle to the bottom of the windscreen

No battery light in the dash (bulb in dash is fine as ive swapped them over) no light on either when running

cheers Tom

coming along nicely tom

with regard to the problems
check all your earths as that will cause both the above probs with wipers and alternator light, it can also make for lumpy idle if your only running on batt voltage

so make sure all earths are clean and connected or you could cause a spike in ecu

ps did you get the ex nuts?

i did get the nuts but they didn't fit they were too small, so I ended up re- dieing the studs to fit some nuts i had here, but no worries.

Will check the earths tonight although i did clean them up before fitting  Rolling Eyes

Bob can you confirm ithe timing marks on the crank pulley for me, atm as you look down onto the pulley the cars running between the first and second mark closest the front of the car if that makes sense? is that right? thanks

are you using advance and setting to 20 degrees on the gun or are at 0 on the timing gun?

0 on the timing gun bob, thats what it says in the manual, but as i said its between the first and second mark on the pulley and according to a few articles thats about right??? I also need to redo it tonight cos the car wont idle without me holding the throttle open so need to redo the procedure, is it safe to rev the car up a couple of times????

ok yep if guns set to 0 then the last mark on the right would be 20 degrees which is about right.
check all your vacuum pipes to make sure ones not been left open and earth connections also.

if alternator is not charging and your running on batt voltage this can also cause a prob with idle issues so put a multimeter across the terminals and check voltage as should be at least 13.5v at idle.

yep once oil pressures up will be fine to rev it but do bare in mind it has new pistons/rings etc and been standing for months so don't rev the nuts off it from cold just rev it enough to keep her running till it gets upto temp then try making some adjustments on throttle bodies with idle etc to try stabilise her

just blank off vacuum to dv with a screw for the time being then that knocks that out the equasion of gremlins
just make sure any vacuum pipes that you are not sure about are blanked and not left open to atmosphere
