So hathe he turbo re built ready for le man's and once all refitted took it for a spin and everything looked ok, didn't notice any issues straight away, slowly introduced some boost on the drive and after a little while I noticed some smoke and put it down to new parts burning off (turbo, elbow and exhaust) only the burning off never stopped, following day went for another spin and it smoked from start to finish and upon checking the oil I had gone through 4ltrs in 80 miles.

So far have put the blame on the turbo but a possibility I've done something to the engine.

Whipped the plugs out and cylinder 2 looks like it's been bathing in oil where as the others are clear, top of the piston appears to have oil on top of it and you can make out an indent ontop of the piston (maybe they all have but Couldnt see clearly on the others)

Have taken a compression test.
Cyl 1=172
Cup 2 =163
Cyl 3 = 155
Cyl 4 =163

Put the plugs back in swapping 2 and 3 over, went for a run to get warm none stop smoking the whole time on or off boost. When I removed the plugs Cyl 2 was black and 3 was now clean and you could make out oil ontop of the piston again

Compression when hot
Cyl 1 =155
Cyl 2=150
Cyl 3 =146
Cyl 4 =153

Going to take the turbo off tomorrow but any have any other faults or tell tale signs for me to look for.

when you first removed the turbo mark did you notice any oil around the ex ports in the head on any of the cylinders?
if so you may possibly have a cracked ringland or good be a dodgy valve stem oil seal but unless its almost cracked all the way through you should not get smoke like that, you generally get it on first start up and it dies off as sits in well of piston overnight

indent in middle of the pistons is meaning they are stock pistons

Havent removed it yet, but last time round no it was all bone dry. Will have it off in the morning. Worried it's something with cylinder 2 but compression looks fine

So managed to get 30 minutes to whip the turbo off and here is what was hiding behind door number 2....well behind the manifold in cylinder 2

Sooo looks like someone is in need of a rebuild...but if I'm honest I'm at that unfortunate cross road in pulsar ownership of to be or not to be, that really is the question

Certainly looks that way from what people have said but not going to know until it's stripped down

Get your head at eye level with the port mark and see if you can see oil running down the valve stem (one on the right) my guess is that's destroyed a stem seal as when a ring land goes it generally soaks the whole port at the bottom, with the pic you supplied it looks like it's only coming from rh side of port which would indicate a stem seal
In which case would be a fairly easy fix as you don't have to remove the head

Wouldnt it get worse as it gets hotter if its ringland as the crack would widen with heat ? But saying that if it was stem sills it would be the same as oil gets thinner in heat ? ...

Well I'm glad you say that because if it is a stem seal I'll be bringing it down to you to perform the operation as I wouldn't trust myself to do it in situ
