Any idea how much preload on actuator on a turbo ?

I've asked the question on the evo forum but unless you own a 800bhp evo they are a bunch of usless feckers and don't answer .
Won't be renewing my membership next year


My evo suffers from a horrible metalic rattle from the turbo .
Evo's suffer from a comon fault in that the wastegate rattles against the hot side ..

One of the fixes is to add more preload onto the actuator

So what i want to know is how much preload can you put on the actuator?

How much is to much and what effects will it have if i put to much on?

if you get really stuck someone like Norris desing or owen developments will know but adjusted to much will stop the actuator fully opening and cause spikes and creep and to little will not make boost is how I understand it mate
the not enough wont affect you as its already set to hold your boost
I know your not stupid but make sure its well lubed up and use something to hold the bar seen a lad damage then snap his

As long as the actuator holds waste gate penny firmly shut under preload it should be fine.
I had the same on my evo 4 so increased the preload so you had to pull the rod over the peg by just over half a hole (half a hole on gtir) that stopped the rattle and had no problems with penny chattering after that.

If you go too much preload you run the risk of over boosting as penny will not be able to open properly if at all.
Not enough and you'll make very little boost pressure.

It's always half a hole or the actuator will become coil bound

It's probably a full hole bob ..
Couldn't pull it by hand . had to grip with pliers and pull it up and on

What and it's still chattering about, should be held firmly shut at that, if not I would say your actuator is the problem

No it's quiet . but what problems if it's to much ..

Just check boost level rob to make sure it's not risen or repeatedly spiking

Can't it's bog standard . no boost guage

Ok I would fit one on temporarily then even if it means just feeding the pipe through back of bonnet and leave it hanging on inside of window.
Don't wanna be over boosting her especially with a stock engine so worth just checking it

Now i need to find out what stock boost is ... Lol

No gauges in it at all.
Other than speed , rev , fuel , temp

But i can tell you the temp outside
