Must admit I've been hanging my nose over 3 different cars. The sl55 amg supercharged or a 911 turbo but I really fancy a aston martin db7 I'd love a db9 but only got about 20k to spend so there out the window. However every time I look at my R I can't see any reason the swap it. I love it and wonder if is get the same from one of the other cars.whats your views?

With those choices you obviously want something with power. If I had that kind of money I'd be tempted to buy a mk1 escort or similar.

The sl55 amg hold there prices really we'll and are very sought after.

Like you I always fancied a db9 but after driving a couple found them all a bit mundane, and a bit hoorah Henry lol, so ended up getting the gtir and don't regret it over a year later.

That merc though sounds the nuts, one of the best sounding motors there is out there and they are quick too and handle pretty good for a big car but think you'll need a bit more than 20k to go buy one

My dad also loved the 55 amg Mercs, he had Porsches ferrari 360s and 430s and all sorts of cars and he hung onto his E55 amg because he loved it. He always had the merc for everyday the Porsche turbo for when he wanted a spirited drive and the Ferrari when the sun was out lol and he usually had a toy like an evo to play with lol

My dad seriously rated the amg merc though, he said out of the merc Porsche and Ferrari the Porsche he couldn't live without and the farrai he could live without.
He test drove a DB9 (and didn't take me the prick :lol:h and he didn't like it much, I'm not sure why but he said he wouldn't swap his Porsche merc or Ferrari for it do what would be the point in having it because he's already had cars for every occasion.

The merc was very fast! Especially with my dad driving it :lol:very surprising for a big car and those supercharged 55 v8s are awesome engines.

Surely you could keep the R and get something a few grand cheaper
Take a look at the E class 55 amg, ok it's not as nice looking or as expensive as the sl or cl but it's got that 55 amg engine and it's got plenty of room in the back
My dad didnt like the sl because he didn't fit in it properly Haha!

I wouldn't sell the R Darren if I were you I would just set my sights a little lower in price, that way you can keep the R and still buy a bloody nice car just maybe not an SL or DB7

I think the reason my dad didn't like the DB9 so much is because if he had one then it would of been a replacement for the Porsche turbo but he much preferred his Porsche any day of the week, he always said it was his favourite car out of everything he had driven

I will say one thing though, the Porsche doesn't really stand out and the Mercs just look like, well a merc lol but the DB7.. Now you don't see many of those

Thats what im thinking about the DB7 plus you never see any cheap astons so they hold price well and eventually go up. I could jeep the R but my garage aint big enough for 3 cars and i cant leave my pride snd joy outside.

That's a point you can't be leaving a nice car outside in this country, not if you intend to keep it nice anyway.

Personally I've never much been a fan of the db7 they're nice but wouldn't be my first choice but then again I'm not as big of a fan of the DB9's as most, I think Jeremy clarkson wayyy overrates how good looking they are, don't get me wrong they're a bloody nice motor but with the way Jeremy bums them you would think they were prettiest thing man kind has ever created Laughing

Why don't you hang on a few years and the DB9s may come down a bit as they get older and the next new Aston gets released plus wile you are waiting for them to come down in value a bit hopefully your R will go up in value.
You might even be able to export it to an American for a small fortune in a couple of years time Wink

think the thing with these sort of cars isnt the buy price its the price to repair and service the feckers, boss has an r8 and broke after 2 weeks so he got a quote for some sort of hydraulic pump on the gearbox and the repair was going to cost over £5k including the part which was £2500 alone

yeah its the pipe to the pump that's notorious for splitting on the lambos and r8's then it runs the pump dry of oil and its fubared
pretty shit really considering how much these cars cost

one of my mates hired a murciallago for the weekend and the same thing happened with that and he wasn't going crazy in it just driving it normally.
tell your boss to check up on this as I think hes got grounds to get the repair done for free with audi  Wink
