I have just been adding up the total cost of bits I have bought for my R since i bought it last summer and it comes in at over £1800  Shocked And I have barely scratched the surface of what I want/need to buy for it.

When you add up the cost of buying the car, tax, insurance, fuel etc ive spent an absolute fortune on the car and I haven't even driven a thousand miles in it yet  Rolling Eyes  lol

It seems to be a trend with owning a GTI-R, we spend more £'s on them than we drive miles in them lol

I think its worth every penny I spend on it, my mate recently bought a focus RS for over £20K and I can't really see what's better about it other than the fact he can get work done on warranty, for now. I think I would rather have my car than his and if I was to spend £20K on my car it would be much better than his focus but each to their own, it takes a special breed of person to own an R Laughing

Your car is awesome mate your colours work well, i must admit after ax mot etc the other day and driving it is worth every penny, i know people spend a hell of alotmore than me lol i could spend another 10 onnit if i had the money, the missus doesnt realise quite the extent of the damage  Razz  I get everything sent to my work as bob knows haha

Thanks for the comment Glenn, I do love my car that's why I'm willing to spend so much of my money on it, I just see your progress with your car and it makes me feel a bit slack  Embarassed Haha.

Digital phase I know exactly what you meen I seem to be spending money on things but getting nowhere as far as progress goes Laughing I hate spending money on things you didn't expect and not being able to buy the bits you have planned to buy, well that's the way it goes for me lol all that money I could have a forged engine by now  Rolling Eyes lol

tbh pulsars are dirt cheap compared to many high performance cars, even evos will cost a lot more to run, insure and maintain as everything is double the money plus compared to the price of pulsar parts.

my first gtir I chucked over 25k at it and that's with me swiping bits off cars we bought in  Shocked  and doing most of the work myself.
the car was predominantly a track weapon so most of the money mounted up in mapping costs with different setups, engines and turbos that had gone boom, 2 broken quaife gearboxes, suspension and brakes. within 2 years I weighed in the cost at almost 28k including the cost of purchasing the car and the body mods.
when you come to sell it I asked 8k with a fresh engine and quaife box fitted and car was running at 460 odd bhp.............no takers so I scrapped it and got around 10k back in bits  Rolling Eyes
worst thing I ever did as never had a car that handled like that one since lol

try owning a gtr  affraid
over 1.2k for a set of front brake rotors
not much change out of £500 for front pads
over 2k for a set of boots
£800 for gearbox and diff oil change if you go to Nissan
almost £500 a year for road tax
shit loads to insure
then fuel costs when you put your toe down  Shocked

absolute money pit and total waste of money to anyone whos not a car nut but if that's what you enjoy and love then is it a waste of money?
some people I know spend hundreds a week on illegal plants and snorting powder up there hooters then walking round like zombies for the hell of it.
some people spend all their wedge getting pissed out their swedes every night or gambling all their hard earned on god knows what!

no brainer things with wheels and engines are the winners hands down
keep you out of trouble with the old bill (if your carefull), give you something to do when the women start giving you gbh in the earhole and put the biggest grin on your face when you stick the pedal to the metal
so all in all worth every penny you waste on them.
worst thing you can do is re-collect what you have spent, you have to get that out your head or you will then not enjoy the car as much

Bob just thinking about the cost of running a GTR makes me feel nauseous but if I had the money I would. There is no such thing as a waste of money if what your spending it on makes you happy.
I don't go out drinking and shoving crap up my nose like the rest of my mates, I would much rather enjoy owning my car everyday than wasting my money on nights I can't remember, but if that's what makes other people happy then fair play to them but personally I would rather spend money on my car over getting out of my face Haha

And I agree with you that pulsars are actually cheaper to run than other cars in the same league, that's why I got one over the likes of evo's etc
For example you can get a good working engine for a GTIR for about £600, I'm not sure what evo and scooby sti engines etc go for but I'm guessing more lol
I think parts are going to start climbing in price soon because obviously they are becoming more scarce but they will never be as expensive as the likes of escort cossie and lancia delta prices which can only be a good thing for us owners

I am like the rest of us on here. My soon to be ex gf doesn't like my R (even though once back on the road she wants to take it up the bypass at Stortford???) she has no idea that her little mazda2 costs nearly as much to run as my R and the mazda2 though it may handle slightly better than my R in real world situations doesn't quite give you the same grin factor when you poke the noisy pedal abit so I for one will never be getting rid.

If you can do all the work yourself then ownership is not to bad, as bob said some of the scooby and evo guys pay some serious cash for things on the pulsar that cost Pennines.

I try not to think of the money I spend, I currently have 3 uk sunny gtirs, 3 pulsar gtirs and a mr2 turbo. I don't go a week without having to buy some kind of car part.

As with the gtr I thought this could be the year for me to get one but Everytime I hear of some of the bills I cringe. May settle for a tt supra this year.

they are not cheap davie that's for sure

but take a lot of what you hear with a pinch of salt regarding the servicing costs etc as yes if you go to Nissan you will get your arse spanked lol
but go to someone like litchfields, svm, or kaizer motorsport and prices are very reasonable and youll pay a fraction of main dealer costs,. theres good independent places scattered over the uk.
tyres can be bought for 1200 for a set if you switch to mpss and ditch the Dunlop runflats
pads are dear but if you buy carbotech or similar then they will last you for ages
if you drive the car sensibly with the occasional blast believe it or not fuel economy is no different to gtir but bury the pedal everywhere and you can watch the fuel gauge drop rapidly lol

one thing that certainly is cheaper is upgrades................mapping is far cheaper than gtir and upgrade packages are available at places like Litchfield for very reasonable money, plus then you have that pretty much bulletproof engine unless you are pushing 750bhp+ in which case youll need to upgrade to h beam rods as the stock ones bend up and will trash your engine

btw happy birthday for the other day Smile
